I am about to build this model

and also the Male version but I have one question.

Is it better to build the entire model then paint or to paint each part then put it together then do the camo?

Also I bought these http://www.tracks-n-troops.com/shop/images/airfix/AX01727.jpg and I think the soldiers look a little too big next to a tank.

Tank is 1:76 and soldier is 1:72 (which 1:72 is the smallest ive seen in soldiers).

Can anyone give me any pointers and ideas on how should I approach this?

Also if the soldiers can't go with the tank, what should I do with them??

Hi Stefan, I don't really build armour but I can answer your painting question generally. It's a combination of both. Some small parts will need to be painted individually or maybe as small sub-assemblies. I'm thinking of interior detail,wheels stuff like that. The camouflage would be applied to a mostly finished vehicle. On aircraft we would leave off the undercarriage,aerials etc,I'll leave one of our armour builders to be more specific regarding a tank.

As for the scale of your soldiers 1/72 and 1/76 are very close. The scale difference in height for a typical 1.8m tall soldier is about 1.3mm. I have lived with a similar difference between 1/72 and 00 railway gauge figures.

Hi Stefan, I built both male and female tanks some years ago and I painted them built and did any detail carefully by hand later. It is easier, as to the figures don`t worry people were shorter then so go for it. Otherwise one molten plastic blob? Must see when done mate.

Stefan, if it makes life a little easier, the early Mk.1 male and female tanks sometimes went into action painted in just dk. green. Oh, and mud!!

As has been pointed out, I wouldn't worry about the very slight difference in figure scale. If you are concerned, just put the 1/72 figures slightly in front of the 1/76 when you take your pictures. That way it's impossible to see the difference. Try it and see.

Which green can I use from here?

Tamiya Color - Acrylic Paint

I have dark green XF-61 but that is way too dark, it almost looks like a dark dark blue.

I've read on the Internet how to do mud but there are so many different ways!

XF 26 looks the nearest Stef., but I don't know if it's gloss or matt as I don't use Tamiya paints. It is difficult to know which is best.

I have looked at the box art on my Mk.1 and it lists the following:- Humbrol Enamel 29,33,74,80,113. You could try finding a conversion chart to get the Tamiya equivelent.

Edit:- just had a look and Humbrol 80 is called grass green.
