Got this new Airfix release in town today.Looks a very nice kit.The cockpit detail is finer than their other spitfires. The engraved panel lines look just right to me and the Canopy sections are thin and very clear. There are three different canopies and windscreens to choose from and a choice of opened and closed parts for each. And thankfully they've done away with that strange open canopy arrangement which appeared on the mk12 kit.The kit also includes two different props,a long range ferry tank and the reason I wanted this kit,a tropical filter. The decals are up to Airfix's usual high standard and give you two colour schemes. One is for a Spitfire used for the defence of Malta.Thats the one I intend doing.Although I will probably try to source some decals for Malta ace George Buerlings Spitfire.Altogether this looks a great kit.View attachment 199074

I paid £17 in My local Hobby shop.A bit expensive I know. But I like to buy from them as they carry a large stock of kits ,paints and other modelling essentials. If they went out of business I would have to travel to Hannants in London or rely on the internet for my stuff. The internet is great, but I enjoy browsing in a good model shop and chatting about modelling stuff with other like minded people.

Looks to be a nice kit Dave. The Malta scheme is one I have not seen before, the dark earth and grey will look different to the usual green/grey or green/brown offerings.

Although the eduard Spitfire is better as that spitfire is now my benchmark Spitfire in 1:48, the cockpit isn't bad and Airfix seems to be upping their game with their kits. A pity they still keep those rubbish old tool kits. Oh, and nice review mate, thanks

I've got the Eduard mk9 in my stash and agree it is a better kit.But this one is still very good and great value for money.I shall enjoy building both.
