Gary i defo have a slow internet. Joys of living in the middle of nowhere in Morayshire where fibre is only if you live near to a 'big town'.

You and I are not far apart.
Local exchange can not supply fibre to the houses it serves and BT refuse to upgrade any green boxes ( there arent any ) , because they prefer running long lines.

I would need to lose 3 drives out of the 4 before i couldnt rebuild all the data again , at that point all i could do is cry.

Are those all the same make and model of hard drive, and all bought at the same time? Then if one of them fails you’d best replace them all ASAP, because chances are the others will follow soon.

2 x 3tb bought at same time
2 x 4tb bought at same time ( later )

I buy western digital red's ( nas drives ) , i have replaced some already during their lifetime , under warranty , no data loss.
I run hdd checks regularly ( part of the server operating system ) and it gives early warnings of even minor problems.
It is now at the stage where i can no longer afford to have spare drives lying around as spares for replacement.
I get replacement drives within 24 hours , and the raids rebuild overnight.
