For several months now my brother in law has had leukemia, his first course of chemo failed to get rid of it. He had the second course a few weeks ago, but because of the effects of the chemo on the immune system, has been sedated in critical care with an infection which leaves him on a respirator. We got the news last week that the second course of chemo had done the job, and while not getting rid of the leukemia completely returns it to the less serious stage which can then be treated with drugs and eventually a bone marrow transplant, so things were looking up.

About 4.40 we got the phone we all dread to say because of the infection he had deteriorated and the family were being called up the hospital, like the title says not what we needed before Christmas.

Cheers, Andrew

Sorry to hear of your sad news Andy, my thoughts go out to you and all your family.

Hope all goes well there Andrew.

These things take a lot out of those around the family. It is easy to say keep tough when you are the head in a family but it is not easy at all.

Thanks guys, its been made all the harder because of the success of the chemo, and at the weekend he seemed to be recovering from the infection. At the moment the hospital can't even identify the infection he has!!!!

Cheers, Andrew

Always a difficult time and always made all the worse by being before Christmas. The family will all find the festivities very difficult. We can only hope that he can gain enough strength to fight the infection and start on the road back to being with you again.

All our thoughts I am sure are with you.

Thanks again guys, things aren't quite as bad as we dreaded at 4.30 this morning, we kinda think that because his heart rate was fluctuating, and he was shocked to correct it, I think 3 times during the night, the nurse panicked slightly an called the family in. By the time my partner and her family got in, he was stable, and has remained that way for the rest of the day. He's still in a serious condition, but like I say not as bad as we dreaded this morning!!!!!

Cheers, Andrew

My Heart is with you Andrew. After 2 years of very severe depression my step-daughter in law took her own life on the 15th and we laid her to rest this afternoon. She was a 47 year old Consultant Pathologist with two fantastic sons. It has left my wife and our family devastated.

I can only offer your brother in law my sincerest prayers and hopes that he beats this.

God Bless, Paul

That is so sad Paul so very sad. From my own experience of my youngest son i am so aware of the trauma. In my case the outcome has been very positive after the help of so many people at the head of which is his fiancée. She has transformed his life. So there is hope for some. For my youngest son who has had an unimaginable life (his mother and I lived with it) since turning 14 is now 36 and enjoying life as i would never have thought it were possible.
