Bit of local excitement today, A nuclear sub, (possibly practising maneouvres), ran aground in Broadford bay near us today.

I grabbed these pics on the way over the bridge from work and dropped the cam off to my missis's shop, she contacted the Beeb and whatnot and ended up being interviewed live on Sky news and STV, (they credited the pic in her name though, so i'm in a huff, bah)

But seriously, it's all quite interesting, an idea for a future dio for a sub fan maybe?

Well spotted!

Just loved some of the comments the readers had sent in....

Worth a read just for those.

I know, I like the 'not Rock Hit science' comment

It's currently a real draw, theres hordes of cars from Ashaig heading toward the Skye bridge, could barely get past the buggers heading back from work and at the weekend too, you can tell we don't have much excitement up here :)

It's on Sky news right now, live, just got it moving, that'll give us enough gossip for the next couple of weeks

I suppose their not getting that covered by the insurance company.

No,it's covered by me and all the other UK tax payers!

I expect it'll knock out okay, maybe a bit of filler and off to Sprayman for a touch up lol.

Cheers

How are your stocks of stealth black anti underground rockery paints?

I believe the sub commander before comms failed was heard to say 'Which bloody idiot let the YTS drive then?'

Didn't realise we had another "sweaty" in our midst. Good stuff! lol

Heard of this on "good old" Radio 1 (sighhhh) where they seemed surprised that it was a nuclear sub... OH THE HORRORS!! But these comments were genius - It's not Rock Hit science!! Brilliant!!!

Give it the once over with some T-Cut and it'll be good as new.....

Just in from our very own roving reporter Miss Syles.

"It is noo clear that there is no need to reactorwards any environmental threat. There will be no conning towering over our heads.

I understand from initial diver's reports that all screws are bent!

In an astute move, due to defence cuts, the boat has been towed to the Chinese owned Lee Kee Shipyard, where the craft will undergo sub standard repairs."

Back to you in the studio........

I wonder if the Navy should have considered keeping the rear view mirrors on the sub in spite of the last defence budget cut. Now speaking of cutting, what's gonna happen to the commander?

Last time this happened, two senior officers got a 'severe reprimand' If one of those two was in charge of this one, I think it may be a written warning........

Was the RN in charge of this? I heard about it on the radio in the car and was under the impression it was being readied for hand over after trials, if so then who would be in charge? If the Captain had not been handed the keys, I think he should blame the dealership........

Nope, it was under RN command and had the naval commander in charge on board, theres talks in the local papers of a court martial?

I have a friend works for MOD with water related matters and asked if he had anything to do with it, he claimed not, said some bigger boys did it then ran away.

:)

As a matter of interest the waters around here, especially the Kyle, (Narrows), are in use a lot for maneouvres training, the main difference is no-one knows about it, (well, everyone knows about it but not when where or who), this will be a highly embarrassing cock up for them.

There was an incident a couple of years ago nearby with a T class sub of a similar nature, (oddly me and the missis were looking at a T class Airfix model in the local toy shop this morning and discussing a potential dio with coastline and Skye bridge, A bit out of my league presently, (no pun intended)
