Hello chaps,

Thought this may be of interest to any of you who are into WW2 history.

I was away for the weekend , staying in a lovely little village in Buckinghamshire. While having a look around I was surprised to see this.


I googled it and it found the following

Established in 1943 by the American OSS, Station VICTOR communicated with secret agents throughout occupied Europe and within the German Reich. VICTOR's role was to receive and send coded messages in order to obtain vital intelligence on Hitler's Panzer Divisions, secret weapons and industrial war machine.
Operations such as the SUSSEX plan and the liberation of France used Hurley as their base station where General Eisenhower as Supreme Commander and Prime Minister Churchill were seen as visitors.

It really brought home to me how all encompassing WW2 was when something as vital as this was tucked away in such a quiet place.

I agree mate the war was won by men and women in little back rooms.

Very interesting. I've recently watched the TV programme " The Wartime Farm". They stressed how farmers strived to feed the nation. Another example of how the war was won as much by those 'behind the scenes' as those actually doing the fighting.
