Close Ken. A form of language which is called Gobbledy Gook. All down to Alan Turin originally.

I wish I knew what all this means,
Outlook Express archives messages when it considers that messages sent or the messages received boxes are getting congested.

It archives them in what ever folder you choose in the options in OE. The messages are DBX files. That is my problem as I need to change them into a readable files to access archived emails.

If you know where the files are you should be able to import them into a valid outlook account to see them...I think. Can you not just import them into your inbox?

If you aren't using Outlook Express anymore the only other option is Windows Live Mail. I've imported DBX files to that before, but it was years ago.

Otherwise try to find a free bit of software to let you view them.

Cheers

Thanks Steve. Seems after thinking about it that I need a conversion file of some sort.

People still use Outlook Express?!?
Yes I think there is at least one person ;)

If it works for a 76 year old do not knock it. I have not enough time left to squander on learning about mundane trivial things when I can be using that precious time for my pleasure.

It's been a very long time but I seem to remember an option where you can tell it to archive/not to archive and the time span for which messages should be kept etc. It may be possible to adjust that setting and have Outlook reinstate the messages.

Thanks Joe give that a try. Have looked in options but cannot remember that one. Perhaps it is some where else.

Great, the gremlins have moved in and I'm having internet issues myself now with intermittent connectivity on both my broadband and via my phone. If you search for recovering archived messages in Outlook Express Laurie, there are different methods depending on your OS and the version of OE you have installed. Microsoft have pages of solutions. I'd like to help further with the archive option but I can't stay online long enough to do it in the time I have left this morning sorry. Now off to try and get someone to look at my internet, it's taken me 15 minutes to post this!.

No you don't! Ignorance is the bet policy. You get more time to do interesting things.

I had trouble like that: intermittent on both broadband and phone. It was a worn out line from the post to the house. (I phoned BT at 11:55 pm on the Sunday. They immediately gave me an appointment for the following Tuesday morning. The Engineer came after breakfast and fixed it. Compared to years ago it would have taken weeks. Good 'ole BT!)
