hi to all ! i would like to know which is the humbrol colour for the painting of the P-38 J .i will wait for your answers, thank you !

Hi, Emmanuel. I'm unsure which kit you are using, but I have a 1/72 Airfix P38. The scheme on the instructions is as follows: 66 upper surfaces (Olive Drab), 176 lower surfaces (dark grey) and 81 (a zinc chromate yellowish colour) for the wheel wells.

Please note I have done no personal research on the colour scheme or the accuracy of the Airfix/Humbrol directions, so this is just a guide to help answer your question. There is plenty of colour and scheme information online which you can find easily, including official USAAF documentation. I know from researching a P51 green scheme and that of a P47, that there were variances even in the olive drab colour, of which Humbrol now make two or three shades.

I'm sure there are a few P38 builders among the members here, so check back regularly to see if they can help further. Cheers, look forward to maybe seeing your finished Lightning one day here.

well, thanks for the answer...i got the 1/48 academy one...and i want to paint it as p-38 J . i suppose it will be a metallic colour but i dont know which one...

metal cote or metallic?i dont want to paint it as olive drab(green one)...i will wait for answer.thank u.

Now we know that you are planning on an uncamouflaged USAAF aircraft the surface was exactly that....unpainted. You are trying to represent the aluminium skin of the aircraft.

I don't do this using Humbrol paints but someone who does should be able to help you out soon.

Cheers

Steve

right...unpainted.but which humbrol paint is alu? pls let me know...

Humbrol Metalcote 27001 Aluminium and 27002 Polished Aluminium

You can brush paint the metalcote and it can come out like this

Spraying would give a better finish

hi again,im on the painting step,so, i need a diagram or instructions how to paint the J version,i have painted all the plane with polished silver and i need info about in painting the rest of the aircraft,so if you could help me i would appreciate that, thank you !

e.g i need to paint the parts with black and i wonder if i would mask it firstly....see above please for info and istructions.

what paint did you use to paint the aluminium? if enamel then you could get away with just masking it. if it was acrylic then i would seal in the aluminium with klear before masking.
