discussion P47-D Thunderbolt 1/8th Scale

Hi Folks,I am a complete beginer to model building and this is my first attempt to build this P47-D. Well i opened the box and what a task i have let myself in for. To the experienced the instruction book would be like a bible to a saint but if like me you dont know your TE from your stab you are going to suffer badly. I have decided to progress and thought that for all you beiginers out there just like me im going to take step by step pics, i mean, how can you build a tail section if you dont know what the peices look like that have to be put together. I intend to log each section as i build it and if anyone would like a step by step graphic history of how to construct a 1/8th Scale War bird i would be more than happy to mail over the files. The instruction book gives very little detail not even numbers that you would normaly expect, like fit 3A to 3 etc, you have to take a look at the very few pictures provided and try to find the part that looks the same. Be careful some look identical but are different in size, you can not see this from the pictures supplied. Hopefully when it is finished it should look like a plane, im in trouble if it doesnt. Perhaps ill turn it into a submarine.Happy building folks.Andy

That sounds like quite a kit you have there and quite a challenge for you. There is a lot of experience available to you here though so don't be tempted to get stuck in before you are 100% sure and you have asked the questions first.

I'd love to see some pictures of this model which I assume is a RC model? In which case let us know whose kit it is and tell us a bit more about it. If it is RC I hope you have sufficient experience at flying such models because there are a lot of cases of many hours and a lot of money going into such projects only to see them destroyed on thier forst outing. There are actually quite a lot on You Tube!!

Anyway I look forward to seeing a bit more of this beast and seeing you put it together.

Thanks for your reply. The model is R/C and is supplied by Topflite. It is a top quality kit and will look great once completed. You are correct when you talk about flying... i have a few good mates that are going to teach me at the club when i join. I did invest in a Pheonix flight simulator, it is very life like and provides down load free of all the new models as they come along. I also have a R/C helicopter a Raptor 50. I havent flown it yet and still waiting for the lessons. I purchased the Airwolf fuselage for this with working retracts. Once i can fly it i will install the Raptor into the Airwolf. Should have some pics of the Thunderbolt soon. I think that there might be too many to download on to the forum by the time i have finished.
