Hello,

Apologies if this is in the wrong section but I am wondering how do I go about painting model buses? I would like to paint a few into fictional liveries for my model bus fleet. My main question is what type of paint is suitable for a diecast body? Also, do I dismantle the bus before painting? Do I use primer before painting the main layer on?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Conor and welcome to the forum.

In answer to your question I would definitely strip the model down if that is possible to do-this will make life a lot easier, failing that you will need to mask out the areas you do not paint to get at, trim, windows etc. As to painting, if these are already painted you could key the original paintwork by sanding then add some primer, grey or white depending on top coat, once dry you can then paint the top coat. If they are bare metal then you will need a primer that is suitable, do not spray direct onto the metal as this will not work properly.
