discussion Panzer Grey help please

I've got some 1/72 armour kits which need to be Panzer Grey. I bought some Model Air paints and would like to know which one you guys think is the closest.

In that scale Dave, I'd go for the lighter colour as in the hull of the KV-1?

top ones for me,look the best and for high lite, or weathered just a few shades lighter, and will look great

I use this alot find it a mix dull color lifecolor,RAL,7021, schwarz

Dave Model Air do a Black Grey 71056 which is also designated Gris Neg Panzer.

One thing which is very difficult Dave is the colour settings on your monitor. I bet every active member of the forum will be viewing a different colour to the one on your screen which will also be different to your real life colour.

I take your point about what we see on our monitors Laurie, perhaps it wasn't a fair question. I was only trying to show the contrast between the colours rather than the actual colours if you see what I mean.

I'm going to go with the one I used for the KV-1 hull - thanks to all who commented. The actual Model Air colours I used were:

Kettenkrad - 71.049 Medium Sea Grey

KV-1 hull - 71.047 US Grey

KV-1 turret - 71.123 USAF Dark Grey

Schwimmwagen - 70995 German Grey

I've compared that 71.056 with the 71.047 on the Vallejo colour chart and it looks much too dark to me, although I wouldn't necessarily say the colour chart is a good way to compare them!

Even allowing for the differences between monitors, I suspect most people would say the last two are far too dark. No great loss to my pocket though, I can use them for tyres!

For Germany grey I've found revell blue gray is the colour for me. I would go lighter in thatscale ddefinitely.

Thanks Scott. I assume you're talking about their Aqua range? I like them for brush painting smaller parts, but I've never been able to spray them. My A/B clogs from the bits of dried paint you get when you stir them.

Bit off topic but Scott mentioned Revel and you Dave Tyres.

Best colour I have found for tyres is the Revell "anthracite".

I agree there Laurie, but the last I heard, they'd discontinued it so I'm sort of hoarding my last one. Is that right?

Hi Gern I use the Revell aqua colour mix which has a chemical in it to stop the paint from drying out as you spray, I tend to favour this as I think that the actual tone is better, I think the Tamiya german grey is too dark straight from the jar. Using the Colour mix I find that the paint goes on as smooth as butter it helps by using 10psi on the air brush, all you need is a few drops of colour mix in the paint till you get a single cream consistency if it splashes a little tun the psi up a bit.

Tamiya Nato black is its equivelant.
