I have owned this Pentax K100D camera from new. I take all my pictures on here though with a Sony digital compact.

The DSLR has just developed a fault:

After only a couple of shots it displays 'Battery Depleted' and no more shots can be taken.

I have tried new 2600Ni-MH batteries with the same result ****

I have received a minimum price repair quote of £100.00!!!(Without even seeing the camera)

My question to you folks is simple....

Does anyone know of a reputable repairman?

Either a shop or someone who does it for a hobby. I 'aint paying that crazy amount, no sir!

First of all I would check the manufactuers website for a firmware update it might solve your problems and not cost you anything

I can't imagine a firmware update will sort something like this, it has to be hardware related if a new battery is doing the same.

I'd recommend joining the DPReview.com forum, I use Canon personally but I recall something similar being mentioned on the forum before, (don't recall if Canon, Nikon, Sony or otherwise), if anyone will have an idea of the actual fault and repair you'll find it there.

They have specific sections for camera makes and a search on there might yield your answer.

The reason why I mention it was because there was a similar problem with the Panasonic G1, it can't harm keeping firmwares up to date.

Not wishing to state the obvious but you did remember to give the new battery a total charge over night, as most Ni cells require this long slow start up charge.

I have a canon and the batteries get eaten alive in no time. turn off the camera and turn it on again and hocus pocus they are 100% charged again, for the next five mins at least!!!
