Finished sculpting him and produced a casting which I have started painting.

Usually I start with the face, but in this case I have started with the headdress - Vallejo air paints, shades of grey with a little white. Thereis still room for some highlights which I will add when the rest is painted.

The blob is blu-tack to protect the face.

Here it is with Vallejo acrylic base coats for the uniform and face.

Next - adding the first oil paints.

Here is the result of this evening's work - the first oil paint has been applied on the jacket and face. Off to the airing cupboard.

Hi again Peter, just answered my own question by reading the Muskerteer blog..:rolling::rolling:

Hi Brad

At this scale I cannot get acrylics to blend smoothly so I tried this technique which seems to work ok.

It has two weaknesses - the drying time (which is why I am working on more than one at a time), and the risk of paint building up and losing details. A particular risk around the eyes.

Peter

Looks good Peter, the folds on the head dress at the back hang really well.

Thank you. I convinced my wife to let me take some photos of her wearing a large scarf, they worked nicely as reference photos.

Peter, if it works for you then that's great, I can't get either to work.. lol, great stuff though.

I must say this is my favourite of all the work you are doing at the moment. Looking forward to seeing how the head gear turns out. Keep up the great work sir:thumb2::thumb2:

Here is the finished bust.
As always, it is painted using artist's oils over a base of acrylic.
