discussion Pledge wax help!

Got my bottle of Pledge and am giving it a go for the first time. Went on fine initially but I decided to give it another coat and this isn't going on as well. It appears to be beading when spraying. Is it supposed to do this or am I doing something wrong?

it was a couple of days at least. Thinking about it, probably nearer a week.

I can't answer your question as I always brush Klear on. I usually only leave it overnight between coats so I'm sure that has nothing to do with it.

I would guess

1 pressure too high, or

2 coating too thickly

just guessing mind as I've never used this new stuff

It's my guess that you're spraying from too far away, the paint/varnish then partly dries in the air and goes onto the model in droplets. As you carry on these build up and you get the beading effect you talk about. With a gloss surface especially you should try and spray wet into wet, by this I mean that the paint that goes on should flow into the paint already on the model. Obviously if you go too far with this you will get runs in the paint work but you should try and find a zone that works. Paint/varnish consistency and air pressure will have an effect on this also.

Cheers fella's. I'll have a play around with the pressure and distance. It was going on as if spraying oil onto water. It's not dried too badly & once a coat of matte is on after decals, you "might" not notice. Looks like I'll be able to find out today though as unless the rain stops, my plan to put my bike back together has gone out the window! Bloody bank holiday weather!

Think I've sorted it. Just brushed a coat on and seems to have got rid of the "mottling".

Not totally related to thread, but, ASDA has KLEAR/PLEDGE surface wax on offer at the moment. I bought mine for £3.80 at the Queensferry store and they appeared to have plenty of stock :clap:. I've also sourced it at Mr.Bevans who has hardware stores in the North East Wales area. So it's still out there, buy now while stocks last!!

Pledge multi surface wax with Klear

Right hand bottle is the new stuff, stocks will last for a good while yet as pledge are producing this right now, this replaces the stuff in the clear bottle in the middle which was called Klear.

Other than being milky in appearence, See the sample in the clear left bottle vs the middle one, it behaves in exactly the same way as the old stuff, the old, (middle) on is the one thats not longer readily available

Which is sort of my point! It's a self levelling floor polish so why bother spraying it at all. Just brush it on. There is much less clean up,I rinse my "Klear" brush under the tap....job done.

Is the chemical composition the same as the original Klear? and do you brush or spray?

I don't know exactly chemically, it's perfumed, otherwise it's near enough the same, it goes on clear, self levels and dissolves in itself, everything the old stuff does.

I brush it on, exactly as Steve, (stona), says, it's self levelling you'll get a better coverage and finish with a brush, spraying is simply an exercise in frustration as it's so water thin as soon as you get a 'wet' coat it runs.

Get a decent sable wide (ish) flat brush for this, covers all models, my 'klear brush' is a flat brush about .5 in thick, perfect and wash in soapy water and rinse.
