Pushing Back .......

Could you use epoxy resin for the manhole's, rather than plaster? Should be more durable I would have thought??
Epoxy resin may just get stuck in the silicone moulds. ..6... not sure.

No mancave tonight ...... a few things have cropped up ...... so an early start tomorrow is envisaged in order to claw back lost time.

I have a Simon and Garfunkel tribute act concert tomorrow night courtesy of my missus ( christmas present ) then straight after that ..... a 25th wedding anniversary party.

So ..... up and in the mancave for about 10.00 am until about 16.00 pm. that should give me time to make reasonable progress. tasks will be between

1. start applying layers of plaster bandage around the blast zone to start forming it a bit better and provide a base layer for the mud / rubble layers.
2. more cobbling on the last stretch of road now that I have enough cobbles to continue with.
3. Glue the buildings together for planting.
4. start looking at building some boundary walls from brick casts and either plaster board ( stucco ) type casts or some thick card which would work equally work.

lets see how far I get.

cheers

So ..... I managed to haul my ass out of my bed at a reasonable time today .....

fed and watered and straight into it with some gusto .....

P1010860.webp

here is what we are tackling today ..... the hole .....

P1010861.webp

some off cuts / scrap blue foam to give a bit of shape to the bottom of the hole. I scored these with a knife just to help the adhesion with the plaster bandage.

P1010862.webp

a dish of water, some plaster bandage. a pair of gloves and a couple of tools ..... namely sissors and a wee pointy tool to help poke the wet bandage into some of the nooks and crannies ....... other wise ..... my good old fingers .....

P1010863.webp

and the scored blue foam ...... just random cuts and jabs with a knife .....

P1010865.webp

start laying the wet plaster bandage all around the opening and quidge the plaster through the wee holes as you press it into the surrounding foam " wall ".

P1010866.webp

very easy stuff and you don't have to be too fussy on how you attack it .... there is no order .... no right or wrong .... jus try and blend in the edges a bit although that does not really matter either as there are further layers of materials to go on top of this. This is only a base layer to build on.

P1010867.webp

My little hollowed out section under the pavement with water pipe running through ...

P1010868.webp

and the last one for now.

Time to let this dry and move on to other tasks.

see you in a while.....

OK ..... no time to waste ..... next task ..... here we go again .......

time to revisit the cobbles and get some more progression on these. I am on the final stretch I am glad to say and I am using the cobbles as a bit of a hospital job in between other tasks to get a bit of respite between stages.

I think I will have a go at completing the guttering on both sides first as that is a decent taget for now .

P1010869.webp

here is where we left off the last cobbling shift .....

P1010870.webp

the rest of the guttering edges are next on the radar ..... so here we go

back later

So .........

P1010871.webp

I marked out the next few cobble bays .... approximately eight rows of cobbles per bay ..........

P1010872.webp

Then started on the first edge of gutter ......

P1010873.webp

a bit like so .....

P1010874.webp

Then once I got approximately 1/3rd of the way up ....... started the other side .......

I'll start cobbling the raod surface up towards that mark and then probably take a break from cobbling ......... and start thinking about gluing these together permanently ......

P1010875.webp

the victims sitting there awaiting their final assembly.

But for now ....... its back to cobbles ....... hunners of the little blighters ..... 😂

have a nice day now y'all.

First full bay of cobbles on the remaining stretch complete for today .....

P1010876.webp

and another from a different angle ....

P1010877.webp

So ..... time to move on to the next ..... the day is still young and I am reasonably fresh to continue with more ...... hold me back .... 😂

cheers for now

Coasting along now with just over another bay done .....

P1010878.webp

and a bit of an ariel shot coming up.

P1010879.webp

SWMBO has given me a shout to take her to the shops for a few things so I'll need to bow out for now. I am hoping to get at least another bay done this afternoon ( if not more ) before shutting up the mancave ...... going to see a Simon and Garfunkel tribute act tonight.

Lets see how far I get.

cheers for now and thanks for your interest.

And the band just keeps on playing .....

P1010882.webp

another bay bites the dust ......

P1010883.webp

looking the part I think .....

P1010884.webp

and the bigger picture ..... coming along nicely ........ but not over yet ...... I marked the remaining bays out ready for the next push ....

P1010885.webp

I will have to pack in shortly as I need to go for a bite to eat and get ready for tonight.

I may be able to squeeze another bay in before I go ..... we'll see. Failing that ..... its on to tomorrow ..... Hmmmmm .... maybe more cobbles and move on to gluing the buildings if time permits. I'd also like to start playing around with the construction of the perimeter walls for each of the buildings. This would allow me to move things around a little and assist in the perminent planting of the buildings. It may also assist in determining some of the other details for the landscape and in each of the buildings confines.

may be back later ..... maybe not.

hope you have enjoyed so far.

cheers for now

P1010888.webp

and there we have it for now ..... and until tomorrow ...... cheers

Awaiting food as SWMBO busies herself in the sacrafice room .... ehhhh I mean the kitchen.

Meanwhile I think ...... walls ...... two skins thick with returns on the end. Possibly a thin layer of blue foam in between the brick ( where a cavity would usually be ). You probably would not get a cavity wall as an exterior wall but I'm thinking purely for strength if it does not make the wall to thick and unscale like.

When I move onto that, I will probably do a trial piece to see how it looks and also to try using the card as the stucco coating rather than trying to cast these fragile plaster cast sheets. I think ..... due to the potential amount of casting failures, it will just be a drain on my time.

Again ..... a bit of a first for me but it should be doable. A learning process if nothing else.

If the walls are successful using these materials and methods, then I will break the manotony of the various wall construction for each of the buildings by varying heights and possibly introducting iron mongery etc.

However .... that way ahead of where I am.

Cheers for now
