[Finished] PzKpwf II Luchs 1:25 Wak

Hello!!

Time to start a new model :)

This time I will try to build the PzKpfw II Luchs from Wak.

The main frame was to be built of lasercuts....

First the drawing

Parts for the frame

http://www.papirmodeller.com/workshop/luchs/luchs2sm.jpg

When I had assembled the frame I noticed something was wrong......I had done the most stupid error you can do.I had assumed both sides of the frame was equal. They were NOT!!!! So with a massive punch from my fist the laserparts hit the dust.....

I then had to make the frame the old fashioned way.....yes thats right,by cutting new parts :)

So here is what I have done so far.....

Next will be to add some smaller pieces on the frame and make the air vents at the rear end.

can you get modern tanks in card? i know you like your german stuff but it would be great to see you make something like a challenger II or a type 74 or something like that. keep up the good work!

Hello Richard!

I also have modern tanks as the Russian T55 and T54, The ChallengerII and I'm going to get the leopard.I guess all kind of armor are covered in papermodels.

The reason I build the German tanks is just that it was on top of my pile :)

Hello Johnny

Doe's it mean you will have to paint the new parts or will they be hidden only asking to see how you will get the paint and printed details to match up

Thread owner
Hello Tony!

The frame will not be painted. It will be covered by the outside skin that is already painted. So to make the outer skin to fit....it's all a matter of clean cuts :)

Air vents

The air vents.

The air vents are placed on the rear side of the tank and is built up by several parts.

The drawing shows what to do.

Here I have cutted out the parts for the #13

The assembly is straight forward. All parts fit fine.

I bought some mesh from RaiRo since I have not been quite happy with the Gaz bandage I have used earlier.

And with the mesh installed the top frame is lookig quite nice :)

And the air vents installed into their proper holes.

Note! nothing of the air vents is glued yet. I will wait to glue the vents in after the top skin is in place....just to be sure everything fits!!

Getting dressed

Putting on the skin was pretty much straight forward gluing. Some minor glitches was discovered in the kit,so a little trimming here and there was to be done.

First the hull.

Then the upper skin.

Since the side "windows" will be in open position,I had to make the inner part.

The turret

All skins in place.

The rear air vent

The rear airvent.

The internal frames

The mesh and top frame

All 3 vents in place

The turret

I have now started on the turret.

Made the two main hatches.

More tomorrow :)

Continued working on the turret.

Made the rear hatch with hinges, the antenna.the small hatc on top,the tower "window",two hooks at the back of the turret and some piece on front of the turret.

Once again an amazing amount of detail and a superb build thread. Thanks for taking the time and patience to do this for us.

What is the gun made from?

Thread owner
The front base for the drivewheels......I'm not sure what that part is called :)

Hello!

I have started to make the wheel cionnectors and the suspension.

First I noticed there was something wrong with the parts 64....I could not make the part fit the way it was.So I had to do some investigation, and luckily I found some shots of the real luchs that showed the part.I found out that the part missed some scorelines and the instructions are really BAD on this point and doesn't show the part in it's final shape at all.

Here I have placed the scorelines there they are supposed to be.

The scoreline should be as wide from the scoreline that shows as the part 64B is.When that problem was solved it was no problem to continue.

That was one damper.....3 to go :)

I also made a small hatch on the rear.

Now I'm off work for 3 weeks......so I will continue the Luchs when I return :)

Hello again guys!

Tonight I did the exhaust and the rear tow hook.

Got some work done last night.

The front "windows" are half done....

The second damper in place

And the left side mudguard

Thread owner
Some detail work....

Details on the back of the left mudguard.Added some nuts and bolts

Made one of the boxes

Some rivets here

And there....

Some tiny strips along the mudguard

And the hinges on the front part of the mudguard

Thread owner
The swingarms with the damper cylinders are done.

I also made one of the rear adjustment arms and.

When all damper cylinders was in place I could put the other mudguard in place.

I also finished the front "windows" and glued that part in place.

Now it starts to look like a tank :)

Now it's continuing the rest of the swingarms......

Thread owner
Today I finished the swingarms on the left side and made one of the wheels.

The wheel.Front-top and back side

The swingarms on the left side

And the wheel put loosely in place.

Thats it for now :)

I also want to wish you all a very Happy Christmas!!
