Hello all, I have built two gliders and now would like to try flying. I am looking for radio and am wondering if 2 channel car radio would be suitable?

Hello Robin.

Does it have a combination of ailerons, elevator, rudder and flaps?

To be honest I think you really need a minimum of a three channel. For sailplane/gliders you don't really need a super fancy expensive transmitter but one that is suited for flying.

I have not got the kit yet but was hoping that elevator and rudder control would do?

One of the best for stating out is a Joysway Hunstman 1100 with a 12v brushless motor and all the trimmings, comes with a 4 channel transmitter IIRC, all charges battery etc...price is a round £130 ish.

You can do it on a 2 channel, best thing to do is have a play and see if it works okay.

Elevator and rudder is fine for a glider so a 2 channel is fine if you can find a 2.4 ghz set that will save any mix up with other model users radio can be got for about £30 try giant cod or hobby king UK. the parkzone radian is a good starters motor glider and i might know someone with one for sale.

I have used Planet T5 or 6 2.4Ghz for several years, which can be bought for around £45 in the UK.

Never had any problems myself, but be aware they do have a limited range.

Hi, to be honest, it is possible with a 2 channel but, if you can't start your glider to a suitable height you gone need a motor and then you already have a problem because you can't control anything else.

Depending on the budget I would go for a 4 or even a 6 channel (you can get good used ones on evilbay) for 45 bucks LINK

I fly with a MX12 from Graupner and that's a 6 channel one and have it for 7, 8 years and never had any regret.

Hope it helps
