If you can afford the £8-odd, I'd really recommend getting a set of brass engine grilles Richard.

Without them a Tiger looks kinda bare.

Hadn't thought of that any other upgrades that would help this kit

There's not a lot from tamiya Richard apparently they have discontinued the pe the only way to get it is in there Ardennes kit
There is a set of tracks in the tamiya catalogue but they are the same as the spare track links included in the kit

These are the AM extras that I'd go for

Hobbyboss track links

Eduard pe set 35986

RB Models metal barrel

Obviously the links I've posted are just examples of where the products are in stock. You can find your own supplier if you'd prefer.

This is a decent kit Richard and I applaud your approach to the Zimm. It's always good to learn new skills and this is a great subject on which to apply your first Zimmerit coating. If you need any tips I've pretty much tried every technique going (although I've never been convinced by the hot iron method so never bothered). As with everything though practice does make perfect.

If you're planning to use putty then I'd say the most important thing to look out for is getting a consistent and thin coating first. This is very important.

Anyway, I look forward to the progress.

All the best

Thanks for the suggestions Patrick

shall have a look around and see what suppliers I can find

Thanks Paul

Any tips for the Zimm would be great have plenty of scrap flat plastic to practice on have some milliput and some model filler not sure on the viability of the filler

very nice looking kit,Richard.,should be a good build for you,;)
there is a few idea as what to use for ,zimmerit, what your said, and also,
other use water base food filler,as well,or you can buy it made ,and it sticks on,

In 1/35 i'd probably go with the filler. My personal favourite is good ol' Humbrol. To make the pattern you can use a Zimm comb (Tamiya do an etch set), or a screwdriver but for 1/35 my preferred method is with a Zimm roller and stamp set (Trumpeter do a version as do Lion Roar).
This is my preferred method but you might want to try a few to see which suits you.

Cheers

Regarding the Zimm what is the best thickness of filler to get it to have been practising and have had mixed results.

Not got any progress so far have been waiting on the extras that have now arrived will finish the other pojects on the bench and get back to the Tiger

Well after many practice attempts I decided to put it on the tank, room for improvement but happy with it for a first attempt.

very nice going,Richard, you are braver than I,for trying this one,;)
which tool did you use,the Trumpeter,one, ?
do real like it turned out well,

Certainly is an impressive first attempt Richard! I've tried the putty method before, but they all ended in disaster :(
So now I cut out the frustration & buy Dragon kits ;)

Thanks for the comments on the Zimm.

Monica I used the trumpeter set for the zimm found dipping it in warm water prevented the grooves from gumming up

A progress update metal barrel fitted and progress being made on the hobbyboss tracks going to construct the long runs and then use masking tape to get the curve and sag on the ends

just need to sort the PE grills and other tiny bits and she will be ready for priming
