Hi.

I'm trying to build a 1:72 scale Halifax MkIII from the 60s/70. Not the best kit in the world. Really showing its age. Alas I bought it on the cheap and the propellors are almost all useless...warped/twisted props...some broken off....to add insult to injury, some of the aircraft glazing is also missing.....the main cabin window just opposite the pilots seat....

Can anyone help me source some spare parts?? I'm happy to pay...just can't see the point in buying an entire kit, just for the sake of a few parts....

I've knocked on Airfix's door...but can't find the model in question, so I'm assuming they're not in production.....

Please help.

Just had a thought you could try ebay and look for the same kit that some ones already started but either got bored with it or just lost interest in the build, might be cheaper than buying a unstarted kit.

A missing window??? I gess as it's 1/72 scale it's not a big window. I had a similar problem a while back with a kit that had a couple of deformed window mouldings. I used a small peice of clear acetate glued behind on the inside of the fuselage. Not perfect but it's better than nowt. The peice I used was from the stiffener theyy put in the front of shirt collars. You will need to use a couple of dabs of cyano adhesive or a little epoxy as the polysturene cement wont work.

This is Hannnats. They have a mad, as far as I am concerned mad mad stupid, Web site & told their MD 2 years ago. It does not allow you to browse but it is there in accesories in the search thing they have.

Apologies John sacralidge I know. But Mac John may be able to source these form them or others.

PS when I told the MD about his web site he told me it was designed for pros. & not your amateur types. Strange that I have not, ever, bought anything from them. Perhaps he guessed that I was an amateur.

The CMK parts would be of no use to you unless you want to attempt major alterations to the Airfix kit! such as build new nacelles at the very least

The CMK set is for a Halifax II/V which had Rolls Royce Merlin engines (inline)

The Airfix kit is of a Halifax III which were fitted with Bristol Hercules engines (radial) they are very different beasts.

What about trying to find an old Revell/Matchbox Halifax (not the latest release) as I think that kit gave the option for a Hercules fitted Halifax.

Yes Malcolm but from my understanding Mac only needs the props not the engine.

Halifax III's were fitted with DH Hydromatic propellers and were not fitted with a spinner, the CMK detailing parts are for Halifax II/V. Halifax II's were fitted with Rotol propellers and would normally (in effect always) be fitted with a spinner this fared the whole assembly into the nacelles,therefore at the very least the spinner would make the set unsuitable for a Halifax III,in addition the propeller blades were a different length and shape.

I've got to agree with Andy I've also alwaysthought the Hannant's site to be well arranged, the search function is particularly good.I guess it's horses for courses.

Hannants web site is quite confusing and often frustrating. Until you work out how to use it. The big secret is you need to know what you want. It's absolutes.

say I need some thing for a 1/32 scale Spitfire. Some wheels and a cockpit door. pick the scale, type in spitfire, leave the item type on all and hit enter. It will then find all the things in the database for spitfires.

If you are after decals, you can choose that in the item type and it only finds the decals..

Brilliant, as you don't need to wade through pages of junk to find the bit you want.

Frustrating, as you can't just go window shopping and think Oh! I'll have that.

Confusing because you can. You just need to narrow it down a bit. Aircraft kits: 1/48 Armour: 1/35 and so on. Also if you are a Fan of a certain brand you can just search those.

You can even choose to just see the offers and sale items.

I hated the place at first, but now its one of the first places I look. Fine the item number and order it from John at the scale model shop. Jobs a good 'n.

Thanks everyone for your advice and help. Laurie's right...just need the props....mine are really stuffed...all warped and twisted...and there's no meat on them...they're all spindly....and wafer thin.

The problem with the E-Bay waiting game is that without the clear perspex, it sort of stalls the project a bit...as I can't glue the two halves of the fuselage together.....

I'm thinking of the scratch build idea....although have never tried that before....first time for everything....

Mac. You may have already tried this.

There are two Airfix Forums one Official & one Unofficial. May be worth a go there to see if any members have some props stashed away or even the other missing pieces. Probably the most likeley way to end the predicament.
