discussion Ready to Run Severn Class Lifeboat

I just bought the 'ready to run' Graupner Severn Class Lifeboat. I'm pretty sure it is the same as the one offered in the UK.

I would like to fit 'real' R/C to this model. I have already done this with a couple of the low cost toy category boats currently available and have been very pleased with the results. Unfortunately this does not appear to be a simple task on the lifeboat as there is only a small access hatch for the batteries

Does anybody know how to remove the superstructure ? I have done some exploratory prods with a screwdriver and it seems that the top is only clipped on, not glued. I tried a little force, but chickened out to avoid causing damage.

Any advice would be very welcome.

Sorry, I wont be of any help, as I never had that Severn kit in hands.

Still, I'm very interrested in youre approche. I 'm trying hard to get members in my club up with a common project which would be every one making his own /2nd boat kit, using plastic Kits like the Revell S100 or the Tamyia Perkasa, which I've just finised. Why not use upgreated RC toys as you are.

So could you please tell me what scale your severn is, and do keep us informed with your progress.

If memory is right you have to remove all the deck screws then you can get at the screws holding the superstructure on.Throw all the std radio gera out and fit Graupener 400 and esc etc powered by a 7.2 buggy pack

Absolutely correct regarding the deck screws.

I think there must be a gazillion ways to set up this model. As I DON'T want a ballistic missile, I'm going with two Speed 305's and a 3 cell Lipoly. What put me off using one motor was the amount of hacking that would have been needed on the central keel.

The photo shows the story so far.....

The second motor will be installed tomorrow when the epoxy is really hard from tonight's session.

This is how she finished up and I'm very pleased with the results.

After a few experiments I am now running the model on a newly purchased 3s1000 Lipoly and an Ansmann 15g speed controller. I have also gone back to the props which came with the model as they are smaller than the Graupner 30mm's and pull less current.

I like the look of this boat, but there is one site called remote-siland.co.uk that sell these ready to use craft at a very low price, there are quite good as I have purchased a few naval ships, these are ready to sail with remote control, some of which are on ebay for double the price they sell at, and they also have a lifeboat on there as well, from the ones I have the whole top of the superstructure comes off with the turn of a few fastners to reveal the motors and batt compartments, this does not answer your question I know but thought the info may be of help.
