Has anyone else had the problems I'm having with this model? I know I'm still learning, but I'm having sooooo much trouble with this kit. I think it's now going to be a learning model that I'll practice on cos I never want to show this disaster to anyone!!!!!

What problems are you having? It might be just down to technique and can be rectified from looking at things differently. And don't worry about showing us problems. I do it in my builds. I have made some basic errors and just put them down to the learning process

thanx for that. I needed some support cos I've managed to break the bomb sight, scratch most of the glazed parts that are fitted and snap the undercarriage while putting the wheels on, bug**r x3 - not sure how cursing is viewed on this forum. Hey ho gonna keep goimg til I get it right

Also building this model.

Only got to the inside parts at the moment. But have dry fitted the two pieces of fuselage which make up the prop front & cockpit areas.

Fitted well at the top but have found it just about impossible to nicely fit the underside joins. Have spent an hour trimming this that & the other but little joy including knocking out the pilot seat & the dashboard. Another go tomorrow.

Hey Laurie, I found that there were lots of small, daft problems but each was got round with a little bit of patience. On the whole the model fits together well but the cockpit seems a little large for the fuselage and the glazed parts - side windows etc - do not fit well without adjustment, but the final straw for me was when I came to fit the wheels as the plans show the undercarriage above the olio snapped and with them being so thin I couldn't reattach them.

I would love to see a picture when you have finished.

Not got that far yet Tony. I really wrote my piece above in fury at my self as I have been so careless knocking of parts not once but three times.

But you are right the cockpit is to large for the fuselage. A real shame as so far I have been impressed with the detail. GazB really is worth building. Nice detail in the bomb bay & in the cockpit. Not going to see much of the cockpit unfortunately once the canopy is on.

Going to leave out half the bombs as somebody has remarked they hide all the detail.

Tony had the same problem in the past with the undercart breaking. I now leave this if possible to the last item to be fitted. Also use some brush on superglue on the legs of the landing gear as this strengthens them. I apply the super glue after painting as it then does not show & make the legs look thicker.

So hey ho & on we go.

Hey Laurie, don't know if you know this but the undercarriage legs splay out at the top. I tried a dry fit and found that they will not go through the hole in the nacelle. The plans are right for fitting, and I like the idea of using super glue to strenghten them.

I always say treat kit instructions as a guide rather than a bible. I'm not familiar with the Mosquito kit,but I've built several kits (my recent PCM Hurricane being one) where following the instructions religiously can cause serious problems.

Apply a bit of common sense,experience and lots of dry fitting is my advice!

Yes Steve so right on the instructions & following them. In my short experience I soon realised that you had to use your own ingenuity otherwise you ended up with real problems. Also not to take the sequence of instructions seriously. Not only from the building point of view but from time point as you can get stuck with a 75% finished model held up by some intricate part which takes time & could have been brought along earlier.

Always thought a Mosquito was a fascinating aircraft. From the way it was built out of speculation. The construction of balsa & ply. The cottage industry where pensioners sat in huts putting together parts of the aircraft. The multitude of roles it played. Now constructing the aircraft how clever the layout is. Read recently where they plied from Britain to neutral Sweden at great height & dived down on arrival to avoid conflict. How some passengers, RAF crew escaped or evaders, were wrapped in warm outfits & travelled in the bomb bay on the way to Britain. Scary if you had a nervous pilot. Think I would have super glued the bomb bay doors together.
