A friend of mine was generous enough last week to give me an old Revell kit of the BMW Alpina B7 Turbo Coupe. The kit is in pristine sealed condition apart from the decals which due to the age, about 15-20 years old, have yellowed around the transparent edges.

Is there anything that can be done to revive these decals or anywhere I can go to buy some replacements?

Thanks, Colin.

Without seeing the decals its difficult to say.If the only yellowing is to the transparent part around the edges you could carefully cut the edges off with a sharp pair of scissors .

Without seeing them I'm not sure. However you could try the following Liquid Decal Film. Follow me

Hope it helps

The liquid decal film is good stuff for holding dodgy decals together but it won't alleviate the yellowing. If you can't cut away the yellowed areas there is a last resort. Put the decal sheet in a window and expose it to sunlight (if we ever get any!) for a couple of days. Definitely treat with decal film before you use them as there is a good chance that they will shatter.

Cheers

Tape in a window facing the sun, check periodically, remove when the yellowing has dissapeared. Easy.

See my old post for before / after results

Excellent results there m1ks, I'll give it a go.

How did you find the decals worked when applying to the model? Did they become a bit delicate or crack?

Thanks, Colin.

M1KS - That is a brilliant solution, especiallly when you pick up old kits that you want to build but the decals are all yellowed. Fantastic result!
