There I was looking at making a start on my Sea King this weekend until I received a email from Royal Mail this morning.
Background - ordered some paints from John to help with the SK. Don't want to start it before I have most of the components needed.

As usual, John post off the order swiftly. Great I thought - Friday/Saturday expected delivery. Then this morning an email from RM. Again I thought great - the paints are out for delivery!!! Nah!! No such luck. It started with, Dear Mr Doug - Sorry!!! That's it!! They then went onto say the delivery has been sent on a trip around the Uk and have settled in the Diss Distribution centre, and not moved since!!!

What annoys me is this isn't the first time this year and it's only the 5th day into 2024!! When they're good they are good but when they get it wrong!!! They even managed to lose a very expensive Seiko watch a few years ago. OK I was compensated but I couldn't get a similar watch to replace the one they 'lost'.

Why me!!!!

Just received a second email from RM. It's been 're-routed' due to the flooding.
Happier now I know it's not them messing about!!!
Whinge over!!

I get something similar as I am waiting for a parcel tracking said delivery attempted I didn't even see anyone come to the door!

I ordered a bracelet for my daughter this xmas, R.M emails,we got it then the out fir delivery today and 35 mins later there tracking said sender despatched item! Then no more tracking info at all, spoke to the sender who confirmed they had despatched it twice, i never received either of them. I bought a watch years ago that was tracked.to my local delivery office then that was where it seemed to stay so i went there and they confirmed that they had received but it apparently wasnt there anymore but hadnt been sent out for delivery,so someone stole it then i said ! Erh well all we can say is its not here! Letters are only delivered to my address twice a month on saturdays only.

Had that before Xmas. We were having breakfast when I heard the letterbox clatter. Same as you - attempted to make delivery. Tested door bell - yeah that was ok.
Mr angry head on, grabbed car keys and shot up to the local office with the little red card. (Less than 15 minutes.) Had a loud word wit the chap behind the counter. He stretched down, picked up my delivery and said sorry. they must have forgotten to take it!!!! Pin now removed, I now asked how come they attempted to deliver a parcel they didn't have on the van? They are special!!!

You could't make it up could you!!! I did hear a rumour, that there are 'shopping lists' by RM personnel around Xmas time. Must stress though only rumours.

Know what you mean. Our local 'Evri' chap is very good. Quick too He'll tuck deliveries away in the garage for me. Royal Mail, even if I specify place delivery in garage will take it back to the depot or leave it in plain sight of the road. Arrange next day delivery!!! Ha - easier to collect it. Only problem with the Evri/Hermes bloke - he's taken by our pup and her with him so a 10 second delivery is about five minutes after they go through their self admiration phase!!! :smiling3:

The Royal Mail was first formed in 1635 so four hundred years of service this is what you get

I ordered an airsoft sniper rifle from a company, not RM I admit but UPS delivered... ace, fab, brilliant! Got home, no sign of it, not with a neighbour, got in contact with the company, due to the nature of the product it needs to be signed for! Yep, I get that, the driver had signed it in my name and buggered off with it left at the door, someone's in the doo doo! The driver doesn't remember delivering it, what?
Anyway, I have since been reimbursed and have bought another, bloody delivery companies!

You think you could trust UPS, they are one of the only two companies that can take tax's off you at the door!! Apple only use UPS and that's my only experience with them.

I always thought that UPS were good but I'm having my doubts now!
Never had an issue with Evri, they've always been on time if not before!

In mid-December I bought an item on eBay from a seller near Glasgow and it was sent Tracked 48. It arrived in Edinburgh within a few hours and was then sent up to Forfar for two days, down to Motherwell for two days, back up to Edinburgh for a day and I received the package a week after it was sent.

Doug, you are not alone, ordered four items (3 kits and 1 coat) all from different outlets and last of all one from John. So got the approximate delivery dates for the parcels - Johns arrived first despite ordering it about a week after the others were ordered... None arrived on time and the one I wanted most (the coat), they lost altogether....
Not just you!!!!
Mike.

Azon delivery dropped it just inside the front gate, anyone passing could have picked it up, told them if it happens again I did not recieve it.

Mark, believe it, used to be on a contract for a now defunct parcel delivery company. We used to trunk the parcels from the big store depots to the parcel delivery warehouse. And at one we had to collect half a load and then go to another and when I got there they freely went through the cages previously loaded and removed items... And when I complained about the pilfering I was told in no uncertain terms that as a truck driver I do the same, my reply was that it appeared his culture made a trade of doing it. For the next load we had a fridge trailer with a wall to wall, floor to roof devider, that stopped their game.

Good news. I have been informed by RM my paints are out for delivery today. Hurrah!!
This is after a email just after 8 last evening saying it had left Norfolk Distribution Centre and I can expect it Monday between 11am and 2pm.
At least they are letting me know, have to give them credit where due!!

Look out for the row boat coming into the harbour....

Royal Mail seems to be making a fair old c***-*p of its deliveries. We have not had problems - so far!

I think that one of the great assets of the Royal Mail is its Universal Service Obligation. This requires letters to be delivered 6 days a week, parcels 5 days and most importantly Uniform Pricing Throughout the UK. It is the last bit that is a mill stone around their neck compared to other carriers. When we lived on the Outer Hebrides many carriers would not deliver to the Highlands and Islands and those that did charged a premium, often that premium was very high. RM did deliver to us. The carriers have taken away much of the lucrative deliveries and left Royal Mail with the outlying communities which are expensive to deliver to and yet they are compelled to charge the uniform price. Without the RM many isolated communities would be at a great disadvantage.

I'm not trying to defend RM because they are getting so much wrong at the moment but many parts of the UK do need them. Far fewer letters are being sent now with the advent of email etc but parcel deliveries have grown enormously. The RM is going to find it increasingly difficult to survive if they are only left with the loss making deliveries which the other carriers don't want. I don't know what the answer is but Uniform Pricing for the whole UK is a valuable aspect of the online buying boom.
