Hi all, i'm sorry i've not been posting or model making for a while but with everything going off i just haven't had the time (daughter going to university). One thing i did have time for was today at Rufford Park, and what a day it was. It was just amazing, no tanks but a good few softskins, Rolls Royce Meteor engine run and a 25 pounder that was out of this world (so was the wife when it went off lol).

Bugger, meant to go to that John, forgot all about it. Some great photos there mate, from a photographers point of view, I love the two chaps marching across the field in step, well caught picture. It is really good to se a few British vehicles for a change, nothing against seeing the Yank and Jerry show but it is so rare to see these types. Love the Quad, 25 pounder and limber. I used to have half a dozen Dinky toy ones of this outfit, they fired matchsticks at my Roman soldiers and Indians..... Well, it would work in a Doctor Who series........

Well Graham there's alway next year mate, and it's free, all you have to do is pay £3 for the parking. I forgot too, i took a video of the Meteor engine so i'll get that up on You Tube for you all to enjoy. Me and Wendy are already making plans for next year, going all dressed up in the right gear. The only thing we was a little disappointed in was we didn't see the C-47 Skytrain fly over, but i think she didn't turn up anyway. I just fell in love with that 25 pounder, the pressures that comes out of the muzzle break takes your breath away.

If there is this type of show going off near any of you then i would recommend you go, we really did get the feel for the home front in the 1940's.

hi john, superb pics mate , some really interesting stuff there ,loving the quad ! If i hadnt have been working (and i knew it was on of course!!) i would have liked to come and have a gander,after all ruffords only a 3/4 hr drive for me, maybe next year. Cheers tony

I know it's a bit off thread, but do you have any pictures of the blue ambulance in shots 3 and 4?

It looks suspiciously like the type which was the oldest ambulance in service in Nottinhamshire Ambulance Service when I joined in 19can't remember when....

Sorry Peter no mate, but it wasn't for the want of trying. I tried to get some photos but by the time we get around there it had gone, well we seen it down the field so made a beline for it but as soon as you took your eyes off it she disappeared.

Fantastic shots of some superb machinery. These 40's events are always well worth visiting if for nothing more than to soak up the atmosphere. We have one at Howarth each year in West Yorkshire which fits in with the village high street scene perfectly as it has changed very little since the 40's. I once had a go at driving an Abbot self propelled gun, a Saracen and an APC and I have to say thay are amazing fun to drive.

I wouldn't mind firing the gun though!!

Thanks Richard, glad you like them. I enjoyed taking the photos but be warned, we'll be attending a lot more shows like this now i have the "bug", so there will be a lot more photos to come. Well i've been at it again, i've made a video for YouTube and put some nice music to the photos. None of this head banging stuff though.
