discussion Russian WW2 overpainting camo

Just got the Under the Red Star set through from airfix, the P40 has an overprainted matt white finish that looks airbrushed in all the pics. Thing is I'm brush painting it and can only find references where Russian Eastern Front camo was a hastily applied whitewash. Anybody know of any picture refs, as 20 pages through Google images all I can find is Luftwaffe info and Lego tanks!

Hi spong , try this pic , it shows 2 tomahawks in the winter scheme . One thing ive noticed after seeing a lot of soviet winter overpainted aircraft is that the white top colour seems quite hardwearing , not flaking or chipping off very often. However it did sometimes get quite oily and dirty ,around the engine especially. hope this helps , cheers tony A Russian view of the Curtiss P-40 Tomahawk

Have found more searching for Ussr rather than Russian. There seems to be 2 different types, one hastily applied at the onset of winter after the aircraft arrived and then as more arrived the white is applied in a more regulated fashion across the whole aircraft rather than leaving huge gaps around markings.

With no air brush I'm going for 'hastey and dirty'
