Furphy Water Carts that were made between 1942 & 1954.

The 9th scale bronze end cap that I bought from Furphy, was the end cap that was made for all the water carts that were made between 1942 and 1954.
So I then managed to get hold of the advertising material for that period as well and decided to make the 8 water carts that were sold with-in that period.

At that time there was NO number 1 on the list, as that was a smaller Water Cart and had been discontinued for many decades.

All these Water Carts had the same sized tank fitted to them, approximately 100 gallons, unless they were the two Double tanks, which were joined by a special baffle plate to stop the water from surging whilst being moved, they carried approximately 200 gallons.

Number 2 ——— made for a smaller sized horse and could be used on harder ground, hence the smaller wheels

Number 3 ——— made for a tractor to be the motive power with #2 small wheels at the rear end

Number 4 —— — made for a draft horse and to be used on softer ground, or hard ground, hence the larger wheels.

Number 5 ——— made for a tractor or ute to drag around utilising the larger number 4 wheels.

Number 6 ——— Made for the Australian Army during the 2nd world war, as a water Cart that could be towed behind the Blitz Trucks convoys going from the Eastern States up to Darwin, as there were very limited water points available out in the scrub, so take your own along.

Number 7 ——— Double tanks to be used with two horses for motive power.

Number 8 ——— Single tank with skids to be placed onto the back of a ute or truck.

Number 9 ——— Double tanks on skids to be fitted onto the back of a truck.

Once I had made the drawing for tank number 4, then it was a simple calculation to be able to draw up a working drawing for each of the other Water Carts, as the same sized galvanised sheet was used on all the tanks.

Used the 9th scale bronze end cap for making a mold and then casting all the other end caps, just need to alter some end caps as they were not ALL the same, some had different fixing points and needed to change those ones.

Wheels were a mixture of Brass, or, casting some from resin and even used a couple of wheels and tyres from the 3D suppliers as well.

First photo is of the adverising from that period, then a 'collage' of all the tanks ------------

If anybody wants to know anything about any of the individual Water Carts, then please ask ————————
