Can somebody pleeeeeease tell me how to turn off search suggestions in Google Chrome? They're driving me insane!

All I can find is: Go to Settings: Advanced: Privacy and deselect the option "Use a prediction service to ....."

But I don't have that option anywhere that I can find.

If I can't turn them off, are there any other search engines you can recommend that will allow me to turn them off?

It seems that Google have disabled the option, I have just read this thread -

Tried all options in the posts above and Chrome is still offering search suggestions, quite an nuisance. Don't know why they can't just offer a clear option to disable this feature.
UPDATE: Tried DuckDuckGo as my homepage, perfect! They have the option so clearly to disable the offering of search suggestions, relief, relief. Thank you all for your help!
