Has anyone ever built or heard of a Severn Trow (pronounced the same as cow) they were used on the river severn in shropshire i would love to build one but I am having trouble finding some plans I dont think anyone does a kit but you never know although i would prefer to scratch build

Try dropping a line to John Bowen (include a SAE) at Model Shipwright, c/o Conway Maritime Press, The Chrysalis Building, Bramley Road, London, W10 6SP. I'm almost certain he'll be able to help in one way or another. It may take a couple of weeks to get the reply, but after waiting this long........

There is a replica Trow at Blists Hill open air museum part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust complex, I did obtain a copy of the drawings from IGMT some years ago but passed them on to a friend who is into inland waterway vessels.

The Trow at Blists Hill is the 'Spry' which lay for many many years at Diglis Basin near Worcester and when salvaged was so far gone only one or two timbers were usable such as the keelson but with the advent of Dutch Elm disease there was plenty of timber to build a replica using the old hull as a prototype, if you do take on a model let me know as i have a load of close-up working photos taken during her reconstruction taken with a modelmaker in mind,

Ihave been in touch with the museum and they told me that they didnt have any drawings as the guy who was in charge of the reconstruction (Allan Williams) took them with him when the he left after the project ended .I found out that he moved to essex and opened a small shipbuilding yard, I found his phone number and spoke to him and he said he would not let the drawings out of his possesion to be copied by me as they were the only ones in existence but a couple of years ago his brother in law had some copies done and he would ask him if he still had them and let me know so thats where i am at the moment if you could let me have a look at your photos I would be very gratefull as i cant get too much information. regards Ray

email me off list at modelshipwrights@zetnet.co.uk with your address and i will loan them to you no problem, may also have a lead on the set of plans (copies of Alan Williams plans) supplied by Ironbridge Gorge and a good friend of mine who specialises in craft of the inland waterways and working boats like the Trow,

Hi,

I'm trying to find plans for a severn trow to do a 3d model to include in a computer game. I'm looking for plans that would be typical of a late 17c/early 18c boat.

I saw this thread so I hope its ok to post here.

Could anyone help.
