As there has been quite a few questions and info knocking about regarding Model shows etc, it has been requested that we have a sticky thread just for such info.

Please post anything Show related in here so that we can easily find the information.

Duxford BoB Show 4th & 5th September 2010

I know this got a mention in one of the threads but I thought I would post it up again in here. As it is over two days and most of you appear to like to go the other day to the one I go on, I thought I would announce that I will be there on Saturday the 4th :grinball2:

Sorry everyone, I didn't realise there was a 'Sticky' for shows ect. until I saw Alex's thread so......

I won't be going to the book fair and I can't help with your question about tank shows, sorry.

On Sunday the 10th April there is a model show at RAF Cosford nr. Telford. Shropshire ( Just off the M.54) It's free and there are loads of permanent aircraft and armour on display and some great stalls selling all things modelling.

The Greater Peterborough Model Show. Town hall Peterborough. The date is Saturday 5th March. Doors open at 10.00 till 16.00 to the general public. There will be plenty of clubs and traders.

This was the first show I ever went to, very close in my home town, in fact it is about 30 minute walk or 15 mins on buss, they don't get much closer than that lol

I can really recommend this one, maybe not the biggest but still a good show.

IPMS Model Show 27th June 2010 Midland Air Museum Coventry. Plus 75th Spitefire anniversary so duxford will be good.

I enjoyed the Midland Air Museum Coventry show last year. Blazing hot sunny day. Not the biggest but plenty to see outside which is included in the entrance fee as well as inside. A few exhibits of the museum hidden by the trade stands but still well worth the visit. I think it was £5 entry last year which, given full access to the museum as well, is a good deal. I got to sit in the cockpit of the Hind which was a bit special for me (sad, I know)

yeah it was a lovely day. PLus the cafe has the wooden coffee stirrers lol Ive still got a few. The vulcan was open too.

I will get the photos posted on my site in the next couple of days, the Peterborough ones are already there, see post above, I will post a link for the Hinckley ones when they are up.

It was, as last year, a great show marred only by having a virtually none existent budget, been a bad month. I did get some MDF bases for a knock down price and a few scenic bits. My beloved Kate came to pick me up later in the afternoon as I was looking at a couple of Verliden 120mm figures which she bought for me as she couldn't stand to see me start stamping my feet and crying again.....

Loads of superb models on show, quite a few I had seen at Peterborough but Hinckley is a much bigger show than Peterborough so there was plenty of new stuff to look at. The diorama based on a Vietnam river scene, pictured in the Peterborough Show set, with a M113 being towed by an elephant(!) as a patrol boat works its way upstream with a chopper offering air cover skimming the trees is a stunning piece of work and I was really pleased to get a better look at it at Hinckley as it was in the competition room and easy to view.

I did cross off one of those jobs that never seems to get done, I finally joined the IPMS (International Plastic Modellers Society). Anyone planning to go to SMW (Scale Model World) at Telford in the autumn, the membership of the IPMS gets you in free for both days, add to that the six high class magazines you get through the year and your joining fee of £20 is covered. I think it is worth it even though there is no way I will be at Telford.

All in all, a classic Hinckley show with some superb modelling and some great traders to. I was impressed with one trader who spent ages looking through old kits he was selling off cheap to find something suitable for a quite elderly gent to build. He eventually took a fiver for a good kit so it was a great example of customer service, probably the only thing the elderly chap bought but the trader made sure he got what he wanted.

Oddly enough, the model that stood out above everything for me was a figurine bust from 'Gone with the wind'. If I could paint like that, I would do nothing but figures, it is stunning as below.

Thanks Graham, I wanted to go to the show but never got the chance, old Clark and Vivien above look fantastic and the Peterborough model show, well what can I say absolutley 1st class, the last one on the slide show made me grin, straight away 'Ice Cold in Alex' and the tiger meet plane WOW. Appreciated!

I squeezed in an hour or so at the Midlands Expo as well. Parking on a Sunday at the Cocks Moors Woods leisure centre was fun. I didn't know the show was on until Nigel Julian ,who was on the British Bulldogs' stand with some of his P-47s, gave me a ring. It's less than five miles from my house so I could hardly not make it! I got some good tips from Mal Mayfield (he of Mal's miracle masks, highly recommended) who was also on the stand, regarding transporting your finished models. A proper ex Royal Engineer's solution far too complicated to reproduce here, but one that definitely works.

That sodium lighting is truly horrible and changes the perceived colour on the models, nonetheless there was some good stuff to look at.

Best of all I managed to get out with some cash still in my pocket!

Cheers

Steve
