Just finished off a 1:350 scale model of the USS Enterprise from Star Trek with the Lighting kit etc.....

Its all been great until I put a matt clear coat on last night and there is loads of silvering is it called?

I was meticulous in the cleaning etc, I used an acrylic gloss white with a Tamiya Pearlescent on top, then the decals. Following the instructions here may I add :)

I thought the matt clear might help but it now looks worse.

I understand you can cut into them and use Klear? What is this stuff? Any suggestions before I have to send of to the US to get more decals?

Thanks folks.

Not sure how to explain what happened in your case Paul.

Perhaps the acrylic gloss was not glossy enough.

I use Vallejo Acrylic gloss varnish as a base for Decals others use Johnson's Klear. Both work & usually end without silvering.

At times it is frustrating as although you can go through all the right ways of doing things you still end up with silvering.

Yo can puncture the decal with a needle & use microsol or microset. However as you have overcoated with a matt coat this has excluded that possibility as the matt coat will have sealed the surface.

Put "decal silvering" into your browzer Paul & there is loads of advice there.
