I guess you could say I was tempting fate. A free afternoon. I thought let's get the Beetle out and have a few hours catching up after so many of 'her' jobs competed. (I've even wrapped all the Crimbo presents!!!!).

Box of Beetle bits placed on my now indoors work area. Here we go!

SWMBO walks in, 'there's water all over the bathroom floor'!! Head drops!!! I walk in - yup, she's not exaggerating!!! Not flooded but definitely not far away from getting the canoes out!!!

Run to garage and grab a few tools, I managed to isolate the offending pipe, it was easy to see where the water was coming from. Thought it was a simple case of tighten up a loose connection. (So I thought). Nah - life aint that kind.) My tools were simply not fit for purpose. Too chunky or too long!! Then!! Started leaking again.
Luckily, SWMBO's best friends old man is a bit of a plumber. (And also a mate from the mob, (RN)). Ten minutes later he's in the bathroom, two tool boxes and a few bibs and bobs. Took off the isolating valve and lo - there was the problem. The 'olive' inside a compression joint was split. Not by me as there was signs of corrosion so I was not up for trial by SWMBO. A quick replacement and mop up and jobs a good un.

Total cost cost - sod all!! Now that's a nice price!! A chat about old times, a few cups of tea - jobs a good un!!!

However, my bench time lost - gone forever, never to be got back!!!! Rest of the week is accounted for and who knows what next week will bring. I thought it was supposed to get better when you retired. Lies - all lies!!!

Glad you did'nt disappear under a flood of water Doug. At least it's sorted, just imagine if you had been out for the day !!!!!

My missus keeps telling me to relax a bit "go play in your cave" Hate not being able to do anything!

Pluming is always fun. That last 1/4 turn can 'make or brake' a good join. More solder is not the answer. Press fittings suck.

Well done for trying Doug. DIY is always a risk especially rushing in to advert disaster. If you succeed then you earn loads of modelling points and your favourite dinner from the other half. However failure means that reproachful face and beans on toast.

Did you rescue your VW bits from off the dining table - worst thing I ever did was to invade that space...
