With too many dios, I listed some on Ebay, sold these:

Wanted a bit more than I got but it all goes in the pot for more stuff.

The sunken sub went for £10 + postage. Happy with that as it is based on a real in-between war German mini-sub-scratch made so I made some pennies on this one.

The dio, 'A walk in the meadows' went for £21 + postage. Well out of pocket on this one...but that's the way it goes.

The JU-88 dio went for £10 + postage. Broke even on this one so not too bad.

Mixed feelings really, sad to see them go, but new projects means that some just have to go or I stop modelling.

i agree with Alan i would find it so hard to sell, such great work and time,

the tree in walk in the meadow is one of the best i have see, just could not bring myself to do it,

Ta guys, I too like the 'Stroll in the meadows' one...too late now lol.

Problem is I enjoy RC boats and scale modelling. I could get rid of the boats and then have more room, but...I enjoy the boats. A compromise has to be made or I really would have to stop modelling for lack of room.

Great stuff Si but they didn't pay what they were worth. I know what it's like to sell a model so know how you feel, but you never get what they are worth. I will be bining some of mine soon just no room swmbo won't have them cluttering up the house so they have to stay in my model room.

I'm sorry Ken...BIN...did I read that right? BIN! No model deserves the bin...get a bundle together and get them listed, even if you just get £7 it is something.

I agree, very rarely do you make anything on a model, well I don't anyway. Have seen some top end pro stuff make just a few pounds, so it isn't as if mine are total rubbish-not far off it mind

Your models are top rate I would be happy if mine were half as good, you are of course right I won't bin them, I used to shoot them up with my air rifle in my younger years, but as you say will probably post them on ebay the biggest first that means the christine dio and the one I amworking on now plus as I can't see me finishing it any time soon or ever the mississippi sternwheeler.

That Christine dio is superb, I crap you not Ken. Don't knock that one, many folk on here love the work gone into it and the finish. If you do sell it it should do well.

That sunken sub model is on its way to its new home in Essex...a little bit of me is in your county lol.

I remember the big day when I finally got kicked out of school and embarked on my life as an adult (loose definition) All my models that were in my bedroom were duly stuffed into a carrier bag and given to the son of a friend for him to play with, destroy, bin, all of the above etc.

I must have been nuts! Even if I think of how bad they all were they were still a part of my growing up as a modeller and they all held a place in my heart. The daft thing is that on my first trip to sea I made a couple of Tamiya bikes and put them on a base made from a stained pilot ladder step. I stained it with soy sauce and then varnished it. I still have those bikes now! Also one I built as a teenager to go in a model shop window where I worked was actually returned to me many years later and I still have that one as well. It has suffered a bit in the move but it will be repaired with pride again! I still regret giving the carrier bag of models away though, although I can draw some satisfaction if I knew the lad enjoyed playing with them.

I guess the bottom line is that we never have enough space for them all and we want to continue building them.

Agree, that could be an issue, but I have sent larger stuff via Hermes for a £10 in the past, put both and see what happens. To be honest, I would dig your heels in regarding the Christine dio, it is imaginative and a cracking piece and deserves to stay with you Ken.

Spot on Richard, they do hold a place in our hearts, it maybe just plastic but we created something, made something whole-good or bad. But as you point out, space is the thing, you have to draw a line somewhere...some have to go to create the space for new builds-simple really.

Hope that lad appreciated your first efforts, would be nice to think so.

I can't even throw away all the bad models I've done tanks planes figures etc I keep telling myself I will redo them one day but never do just build new stuff instead hoping to improve "this time" but alas still churn out stuff I'm not happy with.i keep mine on shelves in the loft and rotate a few downstairs where I can admire my masterpieces lol . But it's a good idea to sell them as this funds new projects so well done Si and look forward to your next purchases and builds cheers John

America the 1/48 built kits sell better than 1/72 on eBay; unfortunately the market has pretty much been saturated, and I think many buyers have been burned by supposedly 'pro-built' models that were anything but, so it's much harder to sell them than it was a few years ago. Shipping them is also a real problem. I've been generally successful but have had a couple that arrived at the buyers' in more pieces than the original kits. (I did refund their money, of course).

Personally I have no qualms about selling them. For me the pleasure is in the building, and once I've finished and had them in the display case for a year, I feel no further attachment. Plus I keep a thorough photographic record of all my builds so at least I have them to refer to should I ever 'miss' one

I agree Mike, some 'pro-painted' look more like...well, I made them lol. I never put that, as I am in no way a pro-still learning, I always take loads of piccies and tell people to look at the pictures and make their own mind up. I was upset about letting go, but happy that someone saw worth in them and wanted them. I also tell them I am in no way responsible for breakages due to the nature of the pieces...although saying that, like you I have refunded when the post office crushed the box and contents...it just rattled lol.

I know what you mean Si, the difference with me is I don't have the space for either the completed, or the storing of future projects.

Last week I had to make the decision to get rid of some of my stash, to make enough spare cash & room, for my next project.

Living in a very small one bedroomed flat, HWMBO pointed out that if I got rid of some of the many un-built kits, I would have more room to accommodate the next very large build.

The Schnellboote fits nicely on a shelf in our bedroom, the Atomic Annie has been put away for now as there is so much wrong with it, and I have lost interest. The Eduard Skeleton DR1 I don't think I could do justice to.

All the other kits I had were too large and bulky, (even in the boxes) so parted with them and made enough to be able to afford the kit I wanted, + many accessories.

I made a little profit on most & lost on a couple, but that is the risk you take.

All part of our hobby I suppose.
