I have just made a complete balls-up of decalling my Tamiya 1:48 Spitfire MkVb Trop.

I don't remember it being so difficult applying decals 30 years ago!!!!

Repairs to do but there is one big problem no so easy to repair.

The aircraft codes UF X - disintegrated.... Got the codes on one side OK, not many problems there, but while doing the other side they just fell apart, so I have no codes on one side of the plane...

I really am not up to the job of painting them so any suggestions?

Has anyone done the other option in this kit perhaps and has thse codes in the spares box?

I would be grateful for any help!

Can you not buy replacement third-party decals?

(Hope you can fix it either way!)

Been looking and think I have found some. Just got to go and check the style and size. Thanks....

Someone on here might be able to help you out though, I'd wait and see and have the ones you've found on standby... Unless you're impatient (like me!!) :-)

If you bust out on finding some, I have them if you still need them. PM me you postal address and I will send them to you. Not sure if I have a stamp so might be a day or two before I can post them.

After me blethering on I suddenly remembered that a mate had sent me a bunch of random old decals about 6 months ago. Lo and behold in there are two decals entitled "Mk.Vb TROP." but they are UF-F not "UF-X" - I'm assuming you need the whole thing not just the "UF" bit though!

These are of absolutely no use to me (it is literally just two of the UF-F decals) so if they're of use you can have them and Ian can keep hold of his?

I even have a stamp too! ;-)

Ian - many thanks. I have PM'd you that is a great help. The only ones I have found on the aftermarket are the wrong size.

Rob - thanks for your offer too. Yes, the odd thing is that I found with my Spit the white backing decal had UF-F but the actual 'top' decal sheet had UF-X - somehow Tamiya boobed somewhere when they printed them. I did not use the backing decals and I have to say there is no colour bleed through, so there was no need. Just a problem of them breaking up when positioning them, they are just so very fragile.

Your welcome! I just happend to have the kit in my stash as I already have built UF X I can't see what I should need the decals for.

And as it happens I painted the codes on the UF X I did build.....There is a picture of it in the Aircraft section if you fancy a ganders.

Im off to find a stamp.
