well, i went, great show, good weather and i even tracked down squiff and had a beer with him !- result !
some amazing models there too, and some that just defied logic !

downloaded the pictures, so here goes,
a great show helped by good weather, interesting displays of all types of models from full size daleks from Dr Who, down to tiny models displayed by members of the local IMPS club,
in addition there were Rc planes, helicopters, boats, subs, cars trucks and some 1/6th scale tanks, and a live steam loco giving kiddies a ride.....
an aerobatic dispaly ( full size aircraft) was held twice daily and the model fying went on well into the night with models kitted out with lights....
highlights were tracking squiff down !
here is his emporium packed full of kits...
the man himself...
the flying dispalys were awesome, and something that really caught my eye was the commercial passenger jet being flown-exact details unknown... its was so stable in flight, and obviously flown by a very experienced pilot- on sunday this model was pictured with a trophy so it won some kind of award.... well done to those concerned !
but the star of the show for me was the huge glider that was demonstrated on both days......
but this also for me was the most odd aircraft as it was a modern glider, and i know gliders can have motor pods, usually with folding props- but this was different.........
this glider had a motor....... a jet turbine....... a huge jet turbine......the glider was also half scale with a 28 foot wingspan..- no ordinary model......
the glider climbed vertically, it did rolling cicuits, tail slides, stall turns, and every stunt you could imagine, after about 10 minutes the pilot cut the engine and this beast glided beautifully- doing loops in silence, just with a feint whistle of airflow over the wings..... it eventually glided gracefully back to the field......it was amazing......the crowd were silent during the display, and we had to keep reminding ourselves this thing had a huge wingspan- the pilot was a true showmen and very talented !!!

Lovely picture Guy and nice to see Squiffy at last.
Those models look amazing and I'm sure the airliner must have been spactacular in flight.
I have to say I have never seen night flying before. Knowing how difficult it is to get the dam things down in one peice in the daylight I could not even contemplate doing it in the dark, lights or not!!!

Tried it once Richard,you fly the lights not the model ! the problem is getting lights intense enough to show at height as they become tiny,flashing or strobes are the most successful.
It is for experienced flyers only as there is no room for error,and if flying together you need to keep your eyes on your very own model.
There is only one thing better than night flying,and that is night flying with a seaplane !

there were helicopters with LED lamps inside so all you could make out was this glow in the sky - the aircraft at least had the wingtip lights for orientation and strobes, - again the nighttime flying was incredible.... and as you say was undertaken by experienced pilots.....
me however decided to go play subs in the murky water of the pool at 10pm.... had a great time - the pool was lit up with the white LED's on the sub- all was going well until i decided to snag the sub on the bottom of the makeshift pool..... but i did manage to get it free- so all ended well !

The Kirklees club does a night sail every year in September and it is one of the most enjoyable events for me. I'm going to miss it this year unfortunately.
It is a bit spooky getting your boat into the middle of the pond and turning the lights off and loosing it completely!! Not a lot turn up but the cold, damp night air gives a whole new atmosphere to the event.

our club holds at least 2 night sails every year, - the lights and reflections are very atmospheric, - the last one we did we had 30 models present- its great......
