This was going to be a quick build given the size of the model is only 175x30mm but my landlady has gone away and I can't get to my pe set till she gets back in a couple of weeks so anyway I have started by opening the port holes and sanding off the gutters they were ok but they didn't line up that well with the portholes so I replaced then with thin copper wire wrapped round a drill bit then cut on glass with a knife into U shaped bits then glued hull together and added the deck fore and aft filed and sanded not sure what paint to use yet I might get a british navy set as I have hms warspite to do after this anyway it seems a fairly nice kit lots of bits for ten quid and I have a certain admiration for those guys that served on them

That's not a bad little kit Roger, for that scale there is a surprising about of detail. Nice work so far.

Thanks I'm quite happy with it so far can't expect it to be as good as a tamiya or dragon kit this is my third ship kit and it's so small must have been hell going across the Atlantic in something that was designed to just go around the british coast

Yesterday and today I painted wooden deck with tamiya xf78 then when dry gave it a wash of oil burnt umber then painted my version of ms4a to the hull where applicable next up will be the darker ms4 then the pb10 and finally the anti fouling red still not got my pe set yet my landlady is back from hols still it was only posted from west coast of USA just over a week ago


I'll be doing the early version 41_42 all the best for now guys

Nice decking. They look so cute but were just not cut out for convoy duty. Poor buggers who sailed in these things-funnily enough I just finished the book and watched the film-the cruel sea. You should do her as Compass Rose.

The film is superb, great acting and as you say, honest to good sea, ships and camera work.


The book is rather good and compliments the film. The book is slightly more gritty IMO.

The book is a masterpiece, captures brilliantly the realities of the conflict with the dignity that one would expect from an ex naval officer. The film made a decent enough bash at it, considering its age, and although very dated, still gets a yearly outing in my home cinema - usually on a wet Sunday afternoon - what B&W war films were made for!

on a side note, the handling of the Flower Class corvettes sounded like it was absolutely dreadful, and having read the book, you'll feel for the poor crew!

Thanks guys hope I can do this build justice my rules are aircraft 48 scale ships 350 but I would like this Corvette a bit bigger say 150 scale the 72 revell kit to my mind has too many issues and costs a lot extra to put right

Not done much today masked and airbrushed lower hull in red oxide I think that's what would have been used besides I'm not ocd on colour accuracy some websites say it might have been black on the lower hull but I think red oxide looks good


I'm having to paint the decks with a hairy stick thingy because I seem to have worked myself into a corner and could not mask this item if I had a year it's such a fidly kit bits all over the place hindsight I should have built the hull only then painted decks first thing oh well live and learn pictures in ten mins Al the best guys

Got some bad news today my step father passed away so I'll not be about for a week or two have a lot to arrange as I'm the only family he had but I'll be back as quick as I can guys cheers for now
