Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me if the MkVb Spitfire saw combat in Africa in 1943, I'm asking as it's for a group build at my club. If it didnt I have to get another kit sharpish :)

Adrian

Imperial War museum have photo's of Vb's in Tunisia in 1943 so looks like you're OK. Good luck with the build. I'm a WWII desert fan so will follow the build with interest.

There you go,I'd have been amazed if there hadn't been some but couldn't check.

At least you are good to go now :)

Cheers

Didn't Airfix do a 1/24th Spit Vb in a desert scheme with a tropical air filter?

It depends how much of a stickler you want to be!

I do think that XF 52 is much too red to be a direct substitute for Dark Earth. The other colour, properly Mid Stone,is much less yellow than what I can make out of XF 59,but I haven't seen the paint first hand.

I'm looking at the pull out in the back of my old, trusty and very beaten up copy of "British Aviation Colours of WW2" which, taken from the Colour Standards of the Ministry of Aircraft Production (MAP) are supposed to be about as accurate as we can get today.

The Tamiya colours are nonetheless in the right ball park.

Cheers

Thanks Steve, I went a grabbed a couple of the Revell Aqua colours just to see what they looked like, think the sand is a little too yellow but the Dark earth looks much better .
