Hi

Do kits generally maintain their prices over the years?

I have enjoyed seeing forum pics of people's stashes, but have been amazed at the size of some stashes!

If stashes retain value then I suppose that in itself makes it sense to have a decent stash, even if all the kits can't be built. And of course, it keeps the industry healthy if people keep amassing stashes.

I think my stash is too large at 30 or so but being new to the hobby it's difficult to resist buying stuff I have stopped buying to concentrate on building, but if the kits retain their value more or less over the years, then I won't feel guily about buying now and again.

Some special kits will retain their value but others won't. I don't buy my kits for value. I buy them because i want to build them. Whether i get around to doing that is a different matter though lol

But i did value my stash last year (before i added alot more and expensive ones) and i was VERY suprised at how much i had standing there. You also have to include your airbrushes, paint, compressor and after market bits too. I can safely say i have at least £1500 here...easily

My Stash is small so not a lot of value. What I have found is kits have different value depending on location, availabilty ect. I bought a revell eurocopter cheap from modelzone a couple of years ago, decided I didn't wanna do it, and sold it abroad on ebay for a lot more than I bought it new for!!!!! When you add postage to that, they paid even more over!!!!! Most of the bidders and interested parties were scattered right around the globe!!!!

I echo what Al has said I buy because I wan`t to make the model , never counted but I estimate I`ve got about 40 + unmade kits about 10 part built kits plus loads of new extras like pe resin bits decals etc , at the moment I`m well into tamiya 1/12 F1 cars for which most are out of production they sell for between £60 to £90 each on ebay but well hold there re-sale price , my opinion is if you wan`t a model and can afford it - buy it ,

I`m a buyer not a seller but with todays financial climate you only have to look on ebay to see how much 2nd hand kits go for , its a good market for 2nd hand sellers at the moment and can`t see this changing for a long time.

That's interesting Richy. I must admit, I buy kits with the sole intention of making them, but I buy at a faster rate than I build. I don't feel daft about that because I enjoy just having a collection, and of course it helps that their value doesn't plummet. I focus on 1:72 while I'm learning the skills and this scale isn't too costly anyway. Some stash counts I've seen on the web are in the hundreds though, but each to their own I suppose.

I dread to think. I like most on here buy to build. The fact that I also seem to buy four for every one I build, the pile is just getting bigger.

More often than not I buy a kit for a purpose, then I get my eye on an out of production kit and if its one I am interested in it gets bought!

One day I might just sit and list them all in a spread sheet and price them. As for the insurance, I have a ceiling free house and contents insurance, so no real problem there.

Don`t worry Mark most of us buy at a faster rate than we build , to be honest for me half the fun and enjoyment is getting a new kit be it from ebay or new even though it may be a few years before it gets built and I`m sure a lot of the guys on here will agree , my interests are race cars and bikes and most things military and its nice having a stash to choose from , if I fancy a change I can flip from one interest to the other , never feel guilty mate.

Id hate to know how much i have spent on the ever increasing stash, but its safe to say its to much, i keep telling myself that i have way to many kits and that i shouldnt buy anymore.....but when you see a bargain its so hard not to buy it:yes:

To be honest i think some of my kits will still be here long after i have gone.
