Yes Joe. I will spend some time on the little fella. Even though I have told myself no scratch building on this one I will make the best job I can do with what I have got.

Didn't know that, interesting how different manufacturers tackle situations.

Here you go Stefan. This is picture of the command and service module with the protective cover at the side. Second picture is the cover fitted.

Well after a short break and distractions with other builds the Saturn 5 is back on the bench as the first of two half built models that I need to clear up and complete.
So today begines the tedious task of tidying up the five F1 rocket motor exhaust cones and the 6 J2's.
The exhaust cones are two joined halves with a very obvious seam line showing. Getting to the seam line without damaging the cone shape/rings is a problem.

In addition to the damaged escape tower , mentioned earlier in this build thread, you can also see that each cone needs filling and repairing where they have been damaged probably during the removal process from the respective moulds. I have circled the damaged areas.
So these will all need careful filling and sanding down. I am using a very handy set of small files but even so I am still not confident that I will get them perfect.

Wish me luck and I will post updates as I go. Just an update on the damaged rocket escape tower.

Airfix got back to me They no longer manufacture the kit and don't have a replacement part to send out so I shall be having to attempt a repair on the damaged part myself. All in all I am pretty disapointed with the quality of these moulded parts.. I don't think they used enough release agent as many of the parts are damaged. Anyway, onwards and upwards.
