I've seen the horrific pictures on the television of the devastation caused by the storm. I know many of our members live in areas where there was damage. We, in Shropshire, were lucky. Just a lot of rain and some flooding along the Severn.
I hope you are all safe and that you didn't suffer too much damage.

We are lucky where we live in Sherborne, some localised flooding but nothing as bad as the rest of parts of the country, within a couple of hours it's cleared itself, the drains aren't big enough to cope with that much h2o

Living right on the edge of Dartmoor we get quite used to rough weather,but despite really powerful winds,and torrential rain,we got off lightly compared to the nearest coastal towns, with just localised flooding and trees down.

Yesterday night very heavy rainfalls and even more heavy wind gusts (more than 100 km/h) but no serious damage, just some eradicated trees and some tiles down on the streets.
The main issue are the rivers as some are already very high (it has been raining for almost 10 days) and the high flow peak has yet to come. Red alert even today :worried:. Tomorrow should be a normal rainy day. :relieved:

Been watching video of the storm on YouTube. Hope all those in the way of that got through it ok. Looks like it was rather wet and windy!

Here on Portland we were expecting the worst.
Transpired, a mere 70 odd mph winds with little actual damage. Causeway, our single road on and off the island was only closed for a short time.
Historically, February is the worst time for us. Strong westerly’s combined with spring tides. Can be devastating.

Same here on the Dutch coast, we had about 40 mm of rain between the evening of the day before yesterday and this morning, and gusts of around 100 km/h, but the only damage I saw when I went to look at the sea yesterday afternoon was a lightweight fence that had partly ripped from its post, and a big canvas sign that had blown over. I kind of regret not taking a camera, though, because the waves were quite impressive.

Edit, a few minutes later: I forgot that the Netherlands Championships Headwind Cycling yesterday were cancelled because there was too much wind. Here’s a thing about it in English from a few years ago to give an impression of what it would have been like:

This was to be held not far from where I live, on a road across a moveable barrier where you’re always in the wind, no matter which direction it comes from.

Can't remember if it was 86 or 87, SWMBO swears it was 86 - who am I to argue!!!! Somewhere!! In one of the many many photo albums is a picture of a garage door flying over a 3 story building!! As our house sat some 80 yards away from the cliffs at Westcliff, we had the back of the place pebble dashed by some huge pebbles! Every window smashed!. (Wouldn't mind but we're 280 feet above sea level!!) Another garage door was bent over the wall we had, again, at the rear of the house!!! The garage I usually kept my car in was demolished by the winds and a racing bike I had secured to the roof - gone!! (With the roof). I had sense to move the car to a protected area in the middle of the island, just as well or it would have been another insurance claim.
Brother in law, no!! I'll rephrase that. My sister in laws husband lived in Yeovil at the time. Now lives in the same town as you!!! Your name isn't Tim is it Lee?????? :smiling2: :smiling2: :smiling2:

We were lucky in the police House in Weston, I don't recall the house having any damage, we saw everyone else's flying around but nothing of ours, thankfully!

Hi Guys

we had a little damage - an apple tree is leaning over so needs supporting, our fruit cage moved a little but is back in place, the worst for us was about 10 feet of drystone garden wall was blown over.


here in Guernsey we had strong winds, a few trees down and some damage to houses. you may have seen some photos of a bungalow which had scaffolding from the next door house blown onto its roof. the owner of the recipient house is a friend of my plumber who told me that during the night the bungalow owner and his wife were woken by the rain and wind so decided to get up and have a coffee, while they were in the kitchen there heard a crash, he ran into the bedroom to see a scaffolding pole sticking out of their headboard!
