Well, some progress! Bearing in mind the 6P maxim (Planning and Preparation Prevents P--s Poor Performance) I've reverted to traditional pencil and paper to develop this idea, I found a company that will deliver MDF or timber that has been cut to size, searched my shelves and found some paper of appropriate size - so here is the cunning plot (so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a fox!): I realised that to incorporate all the elements (and more) that I revealed earlier the final diorama needs to be larger, much larger!
Sooo, In my cave I have a series of Ikea Kallax units - a modular unit that incorporates individual modules having an internal measurement of 300 x 300 x 300 mm; these currently contain books with a model/small bookend diorama to the front. I have ordered nine pre-cut MDF pieces (300 x 300 mm) that will together yield a footprint of almost one square metre. I can thus produce a 3x3 matrix that will, in themselves, ultimately produce nine individual dioramas that when combined result in a supercalifragilisticexpealidocious diorama!
The draft requires the use of my Daler Rowney acrylic paper pad measuring 230 x 140 mm; this allows a full - scale footprint to be produced and allows for (a) development of ideas (by judicious application of the eraser/rubber), and (b) a developmental overlap and continuation of adjacent modules (I told you it was cunning) - by placing the 300 mm sq centrally on the pad, full size footprints of individual components, cut from coloured paper, can be manipulated at will until the Eureka moment arrives. Ta Da! (PS Books etc are removed) Each module should eventually become a stand alone diorama- never considered anything on this scale!
I have identified individual modules as follows: Top row left -TL; Top row centre -TC; Top row right -TR; Centre left -CL; Centre -C: Centre left CL; Bottom row left - BL; Bottom centre - BC, and finally Bottom right - BR. The outline scheme so far is as follows:
TL - Farmhouse occupied by HQ staff (no surprise there!) with courtyard , small outbuildings and roadway to the right, Staff car, Kubelwagens and motorcycles parked up.
TC- Farm outbuildings repurposed as maintenance area
TR - As above
CL - Field area wit small farm outbuildings equipment dumps, R&R area, roadway continues
C - Farm buildings/ workshop/ maintenance area
CR - As above
BL - Field with cows/sheep, equipment dumps and rest area. Roadway degenerates to muddy track (?)
BC - Some small outbuildings, field boundary etc
BR- Small church with graveyard etc?
Personnel and gear/equipment as appropriate.; vehicles, scrap,, tracks, roads and culverts, hedgerows, bushes and walls to merge adjacent elements as appropriate - even a midden perhaps? I will greatly appreciate comments, suggestions and criticisms! Thanks! Wish me luck - along with other projects, GBs etc I should be busy all year! Keep me on track please
