Hi

this was a cheap SKIF kit picked up at SMW 2018 and just built.

Didn't have time to do a build blog so here's the finished article.

The improvised (welded steel plate) turret armour is based on photos of a "field upgraded" T-55 - the infill in the welded boxes is simply locally sourced bags of sand and rubble.

Many different attempts at improving the survivability of the T55 were made so it makes for an interesting build.

Nice job and looks the part,
I can't imagine it was very effective but probably gave the crew an improved sense of security. All the extra weight must have played on the turret race.

Nice job on the improvised armour. I think the best way to improve its survivability would be to keep it out of a conflict :smiling2:

Cheers

T55 and "a false sense of security" are epitomised by the cutaway training one at Bovington where the armour has been artificially thickened to make the tank crews more confident....

Colour balance is a biit odd on the pictures - I took them outdoors in shade but the white background has come up slightly blue making the yellow a bit more intense than it should be.
