Just about to build a Tamiya 1/100th Lightning and they state using AS12, Bare Metal Silver, spray for the overall finish. Is their a MA alternative maybe? I like Tamiya paint but I find their metalics a bit course grained.

How about trying humbrol polished Alu metal coat. Looks pretty good. Ot really push the boat out and give Alclad a bash. Its all the rage you know!!

Or even Games Workshop Citadel metalics. Mithril Silver for aluminium and Chainmail for polished steel/darker aluminium. Bolt Gun Metal for gun metal. Very fine grain, and spray very nicely to.

Thanks chaps, should have gone further down the post for the answer! Just picked up the Citidel Silver, looks promising.
