Have any of you built this kit? (Its also available in a different orangey/red livery)
I was keen to try it just to see how Tamiya managed to make the gullwing doors work. It seems to be a rare kit, but I got this one from a seller on the internet here in France.
It has no engine detail - I suppose they spent too much of the budget on the door mechanism - but it still went together nicely.
The door hinges themselves turned out to be tiny metal ones, held together with even tinier screws ( Tamiya kindly give you 2 spares in the packet in case the Carpet Monster gets involved) but again, being Tamiya, it went together Ok, but to get them working correctly you mustn't overtighten the screws that hold the upper hinge to the inside of the roof as, to get them open, the top edge of the door must be slid out by about 3mm first, then it can be opened up. They give you some struts to hold the doors open for display but I won't be removing and re-fitting them very often as its a hold-your-breath-heart-stopping job to fit the struts while holding the model and the door open and not putting too much strain on the doors.
I messed up some of the decals
but apart from that it was an enjoyable build.
