discussion Tamiya Pz 11 F/G, almost as old as me

Due to work on the garden I cannot get access to the Marder or other kits as the garage is full of building gear, so looking around a model shop in Cardiff city centre thought why not cheap and cheerfully and very old , like me lol

Ideal practice for using chipping fluid, pigments etc



very quick build so almost ready for primer, drilled both barrels and also the exhaust

Sounds good to me. I will be interested to see how you get on with the chipping fluid, I only ever use hairspray I'm to cheap to buy all these products lol.

I was born in Cardiff, and when I was young used to buy my model supplies from Bud Morgan in the Castle Arcade, but he's long gone.

I’ve got one of these on here somewhere undergoing a full refit but not touched it for about a year :smiling4:

I see yours is already done and waiting for paint

Chipping fluid - from my tests I would say spray your grey and let if fully set.

Make sure you have enough time to do the rest of the process in one hit. Give it two good coats of the fluid and let it dry until just dry then spray your top yellow coat straight away - don’t leave over night for example

Keep the top coat quite thin to help the chipping. I found that if you make it fully opaque like normal then it is much harder to rub off again

Don’t leave it too long (about an hour) before you attack it with toothpicks, brushes etc as it gets really hard to remove the top layer - I left mine for a couple of days and it was really difficult to remove anything

Yes Simon is spot on , too long and you will struggle to remove any top coat. I'd suggest spraying the chipping fluid in two directions , one horizontally and the other vertical, it justs ensures you have an even layer.
Good luck Bob, its really enjoyable as this method gives a constant and even sub layer.
