This thread can act as a placeholder for the below kit build. Should be here tomorrow.


I've just hit the button on the Tamiya 1/35th scale Simca 5 Staff Car.

Its just a small easy build vehicle which will do just cushty for bunging in my explosion crator on my " pushing back " diorama.

It is scheduled to arrive tomorrow and will probably make a welcome distraction from cobble laying. It is not a high parts count thankfully and looks like a really easy build which could be done in a few sub assamblies and let me hopefully make a half decent attempt at painting and weathering.

Most of it will be lost in the explosion so if the finish is not the best ..... it wont get me too stressed. In fact I can see that bonnet or signature grille lying on top of the explosion smoke plume somewhere.

I'll post up a couple of photo's of the kit once it arrives.

And here it is ..... just delivered half an hour ago .....



a dinky little model .....



usual Tamiya destructions .....



I don't think it comes much easier than this ....



a bag of clear plastic parts and a simple sheet of decals .....



The first of two plastic sprues with the wheels, driver, seats and a few other parts.



and the second .... and final sprue .... with the main car body parts etc.

I like the simplicity of the model and think that as a virgin modeller, it could just be the confidence builder that I need to get me started on builds and also help with painting and weathering etc.

This will be built into a couple of sub assemblies prior to trying out priming and painting before final assembly.

I am wetting myself at the thought of getting started ....... tonight ...... So ..... I am off to look out the incontenence pads ..... then I'll be back with the start of the buils.

OK peeps .....

Did I ..... or did I not say that this looks simplistic ..... great kit for a beginner ..... do yourselves a favour and never ..... ever ...... listen to a word I say.

Just got started on part 1 ......



went to cut part B14 from the sprue .... I might add with my very sharp cutters ..... and the part broke in two ...... what a start. Next ( after a bit of careful recovery ... I note that the destructions require you to bore 6 number 0.8mm holes in the front of the upper body before fitting any suspension parts ( that you are already building in part 1 ) well caught.



The same goes for a further two holes in the rear to take the rear fender I think.

I did not have an 0.8mm bit ( at least not handy ) so I have used a 1.0mm bit and I'm hoping for a little luck.

Anyway .... onward to complete parts 1 to 3 of the destructions which include for both front and rear suspension and the wheel assemblies .... I might add without any further dramas.



The front as above ( I'll tidy up these drilled holes ) .....

rear fender holes not visible due to the angle of the camera ( note to self ..... must try harder ).

and the very simple 3 part wheels which I did not do a shot of on the model as the glue was just a bit too fresh and I want them separate for painting later.

I have left it for there right now as I need to return to my Cobble laying on my diorama " Pushing Back ". I have tried to stick to a tight target of 1 or 2 eight cobble bays per sitting in order to push them on a bit as there are loads to be completed.

Ok ..... back on the Simca 5 build for half an hour or so .......

The next steps 4 and 5 show installing the seats, handbrake, gear stick, steering column and driver.



but I'm not having any of that as I want to prime and paint the inside and do the smaller parts including the seats a little later. So I'll skip onto step no 6.



where we do a little bit to the top shell of the build.

I will be leaving part A7 off for now and paint this separately as well as I envisage this being blown off the car completely and hopefully posed on top of the smoke plume. At least that is how I see it.

Just for a sense of scale .....

I had a look at one of the tanks footprints ...... wow ..... it takes up almost both sides of the road. It won't be going on this diorama as I will be using lighter weight vehicles.

I know the above looks a bit rough but once the hole is formed etc, hopefully, the car will be sitting in more of a natural position.

Thats what i meant about bringing the explosion zone, the Simca and the surrounding area all together rather than building each element individually ..... hope it all makes sense.

Next build is the Archer .... again .... just to give a hint of whats to come. I'll probably take the Simca. Archer and my 3/4 built pak 40 back up to Dounreay next week. The good thing about two or three kits ready to paint is that it is more efficient to paint ( especially ) priming all at the same time. Saves on all the air brushimg loading and cleaning cycles.
