Apologies if this has already been asked but what does everyone consider THE spitfire model to build?

I don't think that there is a right answer to that question. Do you mean the best to build, the most detailed, the most accurate? Which mk?

Then there are the two most dangerous questions. Are you a rivet counter or a casual model builder.

I don't do 1/72 scale so I can't really come with suggestions.

I suppose i mean one that meets most of the options you have mentioned. a happy medium so to speak?

The one that meets most of those options is the Tamiya offering. The most accurate, though much less detailed,is (according to them wot knows) the old Airfix MkI and MkV. That Airfix model was the first kit I ever built so it's been around for a while!

I've yet to try a tamiya kit, the price has always put me off as i dont think my modelling skills would do them justice.

thanks

Wayne, from an actual build point of view, you will enjoy building a Tamiya. It seems to me (I'm quite new to modelling) that less skill is required for quality kits than for most Airfix or Revell kits, and even Academy(the only makes I've tried so far, apart from one Tamiya Mustang). If your painting skills are up to your satisfaction, I would recommend you get a Tamiya.

I'm not happy with my painting skills yet, so am building cheaper kits to practice on, but these cheaper kits do increase your modelling skills becaue they require more work.

I have just completed the new-tool Airfix Mk1a Spitfire and it is way better than other Airfix (older ones) kits I've tried.

It is no way as good as the Tamiya Mustang I completed but a good model if you're looking for a decent 1:72 Spitfire at a good price.
