Our New Flat.

Just finished all the things that I want & how I want them in my model work area.

This is a few moments of thought at the time & general info for future “cock up your work area” makers.

1 Choose a sight next to the window so that the Sun’s glare blinds you.

2 Put up shelves carefully making sure that one is going to topple down & ruin as many things as possible.

3. Site compressor in order that it can be heard through the floor (essential) to enable unhelpful nice neighbour to complain. Why I do not know as it is rather a nice rumble which should send him to sleep at 12:00 at night.

4. Buy spotlights to light up work area which are absolutely useless but at least keep the hands warm with the amount of heat thrown out.

5. Fix bits & pieces in places where you know they are useless & that you will have to resite them at least twice. Advantage good practice for drilling, screwing screws & filling redundant holes plus touching up with “yes” Vallejo paint.

6. Use a room with carpets found it is terrific for mopping up stray paint droppings. Enhances the carpet look. Makes Pauline very edgy or is it me ?

7. Buy a non slip office mat to cover carpet in the work area. Remind self later to buy one next time which does not wander around the room.

8. Be prepared at B & Q’s returns counter to be greeted with “what have you to sell us to day”.

9 When organizing make sure a scalpel falls on foot & makes large red splodge mark. Liquid looked like red blood I think.

10 Buy 2 bottles of sticky stuff remover. This is for removing about a 1000 stickers on shelves & bits & pieces.

11 Be prepared for spouse to tell you that you are making a lot of noise. Standard answer should be “pardon cannot hear you”. Normally shuts them up !

12. Great fun buy things you do not need & sometimes just do not want. Build further shelves to put them on.

13. Get parcel & think “did I really order that”.

Actually all the above happened but I have got just what I wanted & I am very happy.

Just read that lot out to Elaine and we had a much needed afternoon giggle!

Thank you very much Laurie :)

You are welcome Colin. Although ! There were not to many giggles at various stages of this mammoth excruciating & complex project.

If the Client had stuck to the rules & the plan rather than change his mind every hour, sorry minute, things may have gone well. He was in fact an Architects nightmare (also his wife's).

But he survived (but only just).

Sounds reassuringly familiar.

As long as the end result is good.

Certainly made me smile, but oh so true, ahhh.... the memories flood back.... :)

Hehe, I have empathy for you Laurie. I'm slowly developing my model building area under my new house, in between some building, electrical work, minor plumbing and the usual daily chores.
