As some might know I dont really do diorama's but I have had an idea bouncing around my mind for a while. The Bedford I am building is going to be a part of it.... :)

Any way I sort of started on a base for the truck so now I am sort of committed (or should that read be committed o.O )

View attachment 94808

As you can see the truck looks a bit lost on that base, Needs some thing to keep it company.

At the moment the base is 90cm long...Pity 'cause the shelf is only 85cm!

Considering another section of base to make it an L shape, so then I will need to scratch build a corner section...Jury is still out on that one.

I know one thing, I need some buildings. And a truck or two more and my all time favourite.(not)... figures!

Well the base looks like a quay side, so a sub/ boat in the foreground nice water effects like you say some buildings in the background and your favourite figures loading the sub/ boat from the Bedford.

Sounds like a great dio in the making Ian

I think you need a boat!

Here's some inspiration.

Yes there will be a boat.

Great inspiration Rich but in 1/35. I think I will need a bigger house....

Hmm there is a railway line on the quay....

well Ian ,you do have my attention for, this,

maybe a small type of motor boat / small fishing with a few commands heading off ?

or you could even go for a type of lurch being refueled heading back over to Dunkirk ?

What a great surprise!!! You will build a diorama!!!

Well...you will have all my attention :P

Think I can read between the lines your idea Ian. I can imagine it as well...

You only need some lights and select very calmy the general colour...

Miniart produce two nice industrial buildings, that will be look genial here ;)

I would just like to add that if you thought Pollux was a long time building his spectacular diorama's; You aint seen nowt yet. This is probably going to take a looooooong time :)

I used a HO train layout lights.

There are a good range on different brands!

Marklin, Faller, Noch,...

Are easy to use and very realistic ;)

While in the shed I found some high density foam, the stuff you put under flooring to deaden noise, Or as others know it, to make pizza boxes out off :)

Sooo I started faffing about trying to make some wharf-side buildings...View attachment 94912

Already changed my mine twice, the small building on the right of the wharf has been made as a gable. The lower half will be brick, the roof gable weather board. and I have cut a third window in the bit on the left, to keep it in balance with the other part.

So lets hope PVA sticks this stuff! I even found a square to hold the angles at 90deg while the glue dries.
Wondering if to put a wall of some kind between the two building. Brick-wall or wood fence?

Any suggestions for a better layout or different buildings? feel free I have loads of the stuff!

Why not chop off 5 cm off the left end of the base?

Also, you need a crane, bundles of merchandise including a see-through basketwork crate of geese, wooden boxes with cross timbers, everything!.

Because then the boat won't fit. Try to keep up at the back. lol

We had Mortens aften last month so all the Geese have been eaten. Sorry. Not forgetting Christmas, so those that survived that, will by now, alas, be hanging for the 24th.

Thanks for the heads up on the lamps, Polux- I might look into that some more.

Any how, after many cups of coffee:

We have brick work. Sort of. LOL
The other parts are also done bar one bit of wall, but once you have seen one brick, you have seen them all!

The only thing now is that I have a huge pile of windows to build! Blast!

If you had a bigger gap then I'd suggest a background picture to give the impression of this being part of a bigger scene, something with a ship or dockscene. As it stands a gate, fence or wall is about all you have as an option.

very nice start,Ian ,you have really barnstormed this one, looking very good, ;)

the brick work is great,so neat, you are showing very hidden skills, I like it,

will look good with a few lights about the place as well, maybe dull ones, and the

mini art are about all i can ever find at a nice cost,or even make them,

will be very interested to see how you do the window,s as i alway like to know diffidence methods

as for the Geese, are on the way to me for a late xmas dinner, ;)

Well the misses was at work today, so I had another crack at the buildings.

All the brick work scratched in....BORING but it pays to take your time or the spacing goes to pot. Good sigh its coffee time.

As the buildings are just fronts I cheated on the door and windows. They are cut from plastic card and will be glued to the back of the wall. At the moment they are taped on to see how they look.

The slated roof is card

Made a start on the windows for the warehouse/factory and made a couple of doors for the port.

I hope the Z bars are the right way or Ron will be after me. Any way a few big barn door type hinges and a bucket of bolts should finish them off.

Off to try find some lights.
