The MAJOR issue here is that if part of your kit is missing or broken then you CANNOT approach UK Tamiya as the kit was not bought in the UK.

Ie: if you bought a tiger from a uk seller and the tracks broke you could ring up the hobby co (tam agents) and ask for a replacement for free. If you rang them up and said you bought it from HK you would just have to buy the new part!

Like Richard says there is also the whole customs issue thing!

Tamiyas view on this is that they actually dont know where these HK sellers are getting the kits and they believe some to actually be fakes. They know all about the Ebay sellers and im sure we will see a change in the UK market over the next year, or at least thats what they tell me!

As for the unit, my lovelly lady at tamiya (never met her but o0o0o0 she has a nice voice) will be ringing tommorow with a price hopefully so i will let you know ASAP but as i said on MSN i fear its going to cost the earth!

.......Ask Nigel about Them wanting £92 for a 1:16th Mg42 even though the £9.99 1:16th German Soldier kit comes with one! LOL...

Squiff ...u know i love ya mate...but..it was me that killed the MF unit...so the point is mute....no guarantee whatsoever if you invalidate the warranty by tinkereing.... and it was proper fried. neither of my KT's was bought from HKC ...but my kubelwagon was..... and it was complete and shrink wrapped....He has been there for a long time...and i was scared to order from him when i first got back into modelling...but not now.

Squiff you know the score...i mean if model shops charge £2.00 for Tam paint and online dealers can do it for 99p,,,,,,what the f*** is going on?

double the price cannot be just down to property expenses.

Ok ...so after HKC has been reported to Tamiya or whatever and he no longer sells.......who is the loser here?...US thats who.... i feel that the dude makes quality modelling affordable and not just for the rich elite modellers.

Right now there is no risk ordering from HKC......if he screws up ...paypal give you your money back.

I feel for UK dealers that are having there pants pulled down by Tamiya UK. Or are they?

I for one have taken a leaf from Onewinglo's book, I'm scratch building from now on (thats if i'm as drunk as i am right now in the morning and ONLy if i suddenly get really good at building)....

Anyway..i'm gonna watch for HK dissappearing...somehow i don't think he will....RESPECT TO THE TAMIYA ANARCHIST!!!!

Sorry TC you misunderstood me i think, i was saying a hyperthetical kit, not the tiger in particular!

Its a funny thing these HK sellers! I agree that they do make life for the customer great but its these guys (as well as people like me with online stores) that are killing the local hobby shop trade. But i think that seems to be the general demise of retail as a whole, not just the hobby trade!

The double price is pretty much for property expensese to be honest, businesss rates and lack of regular custom forces the prices up, although i think theyve been the same in shops for a long time, its just that online shops have MUCH lower overheads so can absorb some of the profit loss thus charging lower prices!

Tamiya cant stop him selling but they can trace where he gets his stock from as they are pretty picky about who they choose to sell their products, i had to try quite hard to get an account with them! If i could goto HK and buy from his surplier i would be a VERY rich man, alas, it is not possible!

paypal protection DOES NOT COVER a customs charge or loss of parts, trust me im a powerseller!

as for scratch building, i cant do that to save my life, i prefer my resin parts :-)

excuse the grammer/spelling/general ramblings, ive been coding php all day and am now a "lil" drunk too!

Scratch built stainless steel tow ropes (and the rope that runs along the top and it's holders, dunno what its for) Tow rope jolders were shop bought...that and Wonwing gave me the idea to start making the stuff myself. Scratch built M1 'sh hex bolts to hold the fenders on. Also been messing with weathering as you can see...I will have to do the whole thing all over again once i am happy and practiced.

Now the disaster pictures.

The mess of wire is the connector from the dmd (motor power unit) to the MF (Multi function unit, does all the sound and recoil etc) It caught fire!! and melted. If you look close at the amplifier IC there is a small burn hole just off centre...FRIED!!!. I have since replaced the amp ic and there is volume but no sound effects (ie...i turn it up and the hiss gets louder). I think the processor on the MF is def blown and it aint a stock part from an electronics shop...as it will have been programmed with the sounds etc buy Tamiya.

But still, it aint all bad.... the superstructure and internals are all taking shape nicely.

Cheers Nige,

I guess the most important lesson you have shown me (via the tutorial) is taking your time to get used to the air/paint mix...and if it stops dont keep squeezing the trigger...clean the nozzle!!!!

I still have a problem with the paint drying too quickly around the gun head. I find i have to clean it whether i like it or not every 10 minutes or so, or is that normal?
