ok, as this is my first ever build, i've decided just to jump in and hopefully learn from my mistakes ready for my next build (convertable beetle)

So, the lesson learnt so far.

Yes, primer is important, airbrushed the black, then did all the damage glueing the bits together.... Will tart up with a paintbrush, struggled with the glueing, used a needle to apply the supplied airfix cement .... Happy for recommendations and tips....and criticism

So, off to halfords i went, and picked up a can of plastic primer i saw recommended on another thread.... Applied it to the body and bonnet, left to cure overnight, then set about applying a coat of colour (acrylic) with my airbrush, thought my paint thinning was ok, but not great, just used distilled water plus a Drop of flow enhancer.....again, tips and advice welcomed.

Excuse the colour, my wife thought it was nice..... Probably finish it in a blue, this is just practice for now.

Nice start Amos nice colour. I had a Ford Capri in that colour with a black vinyl roof, looked good well in my eyes anyway.

Well, im going to be honest and say i have made so many mistakes with this kit that i have totally lost heart with it, so it going on to the back burner while i gain a bit more experience...... I think theres no point in pursueing something when i know the finished thing is only going to annoy me......... On the plus side, i have learned a few good lessons from this, and have started another car in a bigger scale...... Will post pics and info at the weekend, and will definitly be looking for hints and tips.

Get yourself some thin Cement with a "Needle Point" It'll make your life a whole load easier ........ Revell Contacta or Humbrol do one as well....... They are cheap, seem to last forever, and dead easy to work with.

Amos don't beat yourself up about this.its not the best kit in the world as a starter project.i did one on my return to modelling a couple of years ago and this is how it turned out after I to at the time got frustrated with the kit and myself and it ended up as a "barn find"lol.Then in my wisdom I thought I'd do another one it turned out slightly better but no head turner.So after doing other models tanks planes etc I recently did the jaguar which is a really nice kit and goes together really well.still room for improvement though so I would say to you it's all about the practice and I would finish your triumph as it would make a nice point of reference from where you started.My old barn find triumph gives me as much pleasure when I look at it as my latest build.I hope you finish your triumph and good luck with your latest kit regards John View attachment 97806

Thanks chaps, i do intend to return to this kit, but if your not enjoying it then you tend not to take as much care, where as with my new kit, i have started so much better and look forward to doing more, have also purchased more modelling tools and accessories, which helps.

As for your "barn find" TR4, i love it....... It was seeing barn find dioramas on ebay that first peeked my interest in modelling, i had never even considered doing one til i see these, and thought " how did they do that".... Never realised how clever and talented you modelling people are, the more i looked into it, the more i wanted to try it...... And here i am

I tend to find that completing the model in a flawless way shouldn't be the aim; its about the journey and the enjoyment of learning techniques and when you get fed up with it, put it away. I just do mine when the wife wants to watch chick tv.
